has a very proactive doctor.
He went for a physical a month ago- he is healthy as a horse
but
this doctor did a vitamin D test and his is very low, so he is on vit D supplements. Doc said he does vit D test on everyone!
He also complained about pain in his chest when he eats. Put him on priolest and scheduled an endoscopy and told him, "well as long as you are having that, I am going to schedule you for a colonoscopy". No colon issues, but doc ssaid the first relative with colon cancer was enough to have it.

Wow, wish all doctors were so proactive.

He had the endoscopy and colonoscopy today.
His colon is CLEAN
He does have a hiatal hernia, she took some biospy of red areas and will meet with him in a couple of weeks.

End of story, happy ending.

Since my mom was dxd with colon cancer in May, I had to have my first colonoscopy in August. Isn't there some type of club. I feel like I have been like I have been. Devirginized!

    Awesome
Glad it was clean, colon cancer has killed 3 of my family members, such a huge relief that your son is fine.

this doc today also told us
this doc today also told us several things
because of family history of colon cancer he now will have colonoscopy every 5 years
    and
the colonoscopy movement is now to NEVER EVER dx colon issues without the benefit of colonoscopy
she said age doesn't matter any more and she never takes a wait and see attitude

so folks, I think we are headed in the right direction with changing mind sets in the medical community
obviously a ways to go with getting everyone on board
as we still have the very people who need to be scoped unwilling to do so!

    Good Colon News
So very glad for the good news and also to hear that he has such a proactive doc.

Would be a blessing to all if all the docs and the insurance companies could see that it is much better to check early and often than to deal with possible problems.

    Thanks for sharing.

    Great!
So glad everything is good with your son! And it's wonderful news to see that the thinking is changing. Age shouldn't have anything to do with having a colonoscopy when there are worrisome symptoms.

    *hugs*

    So happy
So happy to hear that the trends may be changing, that the fact that colon cancer is finally be recognized that its happening to younger people, that the testing will change .

At sucha young age how did he get his insurance to approve the colonoscopy? Even with a family history the recommendation for most insurance approvals ois minimum 40 or 10 years before the age that the parent was diagnposed.

    sorry Patteee
sorry not trying to interfere on your thread....

Kath....I heard that in Ontario that OHIP is no longer funding testing for Vitamin D...have you heard that in BC?

Ketz lots of docs here are still saying 40 years of age too... even if you are the child of a colon patient....

I reread my last post. Wow
I reread my last post. Wow lots of typo. I can't type on this dang blackberry. Off the subject there was a positive experience with my colonoscopy. I suffer from chronic insomnia. That sedative caused the best nap that I have ever had. I wanted to take it home and then I caught myself and though"isn't that what Michael Jackson did?"N but you are right mags, I turned 40 last January so I got everything anal devirginzied and titty squashed (sorry). First of all someone could have warned me that I may need some Depends and someone could have warned me that they don't heat the damn mammo machine.

    Happy Holidays!

This is awesome, it sounds like your son has a proactive doctor + your son was proactive to follow through with all this. I am happy for him + you.
