My husband has had 3 attempts to get his first colonoscopy.

First time: Miralax - he gets there "Incomplete prep" They send him home to try "go-lytely". He can't stomach it - starts vomiting with first glass, and gives up. They tell him that the "partial scoping" indicated all was okay - he could wait a few years.

Fast forward to now (6 years later) - MoviPrep - they got in there - "Incomplete prep" and they couldn't continue.

He followed all the dietary restrictions, did the preps according to instructions, and now has been drugged twice, but still has not had a colonoscopy.

Suggestions on super-strong preps?

This is frustrating ....

Alice

    Try the pill form
    Hi Alice,

I have trouble drinking the "yucky" stuff so they gave me the pill form. I can't remember the name of it, but your gastro doc will know. It is a lot of pills to take during an hour, but I found it easier to do and the results were great.

    Hugs,

The dr won't use the pill form
He said that the FDA has found that it may cause kidney damage, so the pills are not an option for my husband. (MoviPrep works great for me - cleans me right out......)

    I appreciate your input!

    Prep
We are now doing four dulcolax pills (stool softner) and using miralax (think its like 14 day supply) mixed with gatorade. More and more doctors are using this prep instead because of the others causing kidney problems. It really cleans you out.

That's what he had last time
And it didn't clean him out...

    He has stubborn bowels.

Thanks for your input on his output!

    My husband's
surgeon put him on magnesium citrate and a clear diet the day before his surgery for his reversal...I don't know how well it works since his surgery date is the 21st, but I thought I would throw it in the mix for an additional option.

Best to you and your husband

    Yup
I've done that too and that works too hard and too long for me. Keep going for 24 hours, it seemed like it worked too well because any liquid that came in wasn't getting peed out it was just pooped out.

His dr is thinking Mag Citrate
Probably liquid diet for 3 days prior; last day clear liquids with Mag Citrate for 2 nights, then a double Miralax prep (full one the night before, and another the morning of.)

We've got to get him cleaned out for his first complete colonoscopy. Heck, he turns 60 in May...
