hmmm. . . not sure what to say. . . it's a weird experience, one you have never imagined you would have to do. and it was the first time in over two months that there was a bra on my body. interesting to find that i have been wearing the wrong size - what a difference it makes to have the right size.

surprised to find that when prosthesis is in the bra and i had my sweater back on, i looked normal again!!!

what an amazing adventure cancer takes us on!

    I have been wondering what
I have been wondering what it was like to go get fitted. What was the prosthesis made of? Was it hot? very heavy? What was the cost? I was told that if they get poked they leak and are no good anymore. I was thinking of maybe getting a good one to wear out to eat or something. I will wear cheap ones to work in from Dr leonard's. Thanks Kay

    Congratulations
on your new normal look! I guess it's one of the silver linings of bc to finally be able to get a bra that fits me correctly! Altho I'd rather have kept on wearing the ill-fitting ones!

Kay, in answer to your questions on your reply. I don't know for sure what my prothesis is made of - seems like some sort of rubbery silicone material and it even has something that resembles a nipple on it. Too funny! When you pick up your bra that you have put your prothesis in, it does feel heavy but once your bra is on, you can't tell. I can't tell you the cost - by the time I got mine, we'd paid the deductible from surgery, etc. so there was no cost out of my pocket. I've had mine for over two years and have had no problems with anything leaking - in fact it looks like new still. ( Actually I got two altho I only needed one - maybe they come in pairs) The first summer I had it, it seemed hot and made me have hot flashes, now I'm pretty much OK with wearing it in the summer.

    Hope this helps. Hugs, Sally

I never went without my old
I never went without my old bras. Well, that is a week after surgery when the wrap/bandage was taken off. I wore my old bras with the 'fluff' that the local ACS sent me during that week. Surgery was Oct 21, 09 and I got my pros in late Jan 10. The place I went to did not have the 'right' pros so it was ordered as was the bra.

    Hi Heidi,
Sounds like it was a positive experience. Happy for you. I laughed when I read that you looked normal again. I'm sure you were the only one that thought you didn't look normal to begin with! Hugs, Jean

    It's
nice to feel normal again :-) We need every little bit of help we can get even if it's artificial. I wear a prosthetic bra with 2 "girls".

    An Out-of-booby Experience
It's surreal. It was a pleasant, yet odd day for me...I stood half dressed in a dressing room with a fortunately very caring woman armed with multiple girls and various brassieres...trying this then that...draping silk, trying on a sweater. Giggling as my 15 year old daughter stood staring at my bust...thumb up or thumb down. Her tongue sticking between her lips on one side of her mouth looking intensely at the horizontal lines and disapproving any seam lines on the cups.

I never would have considered the science and simplicity in the designs, but I am extremely grateful for the thought. I wear my 'girl' at least 12 hours a day with no discomfort. She's not sweaty nor heavy. I even was so pooped one evening I actually feel asleep with her in place.

There is a nagging anxiety that a sharp object could have strangers wondering if the crazy old gray haired lady with the militant lesbian haircut might be lactating, but oh Hell...I have survived @#$%! cancer.

It's so liberating to have a matched set. Congratulations, Heidi...wear her proudly!
