When those of you who had lymph node involvement, and radiation, did you get treatments to the nodes to? Or just the main tumor. Just wondered how that worked.

Thanks

    Hi
Yes, they originally thought my hubby had one lymph node involved and so when they did the 'mapping' of his back, they marked where the radiation would cover and it got the lymph node area as well as his esophagus at the same time. Check with his radiologist and I'm sure they will tell you all the information.
    Hope that helps :)

    Yes to some
The nodes adjacent to the primary tumor were within the primary mapped area so were treated. Distant nodes at my collarbone were mapped separately and treated as well. A third area of involved nodes were not treated due to the risk of damage to other vital organs. There was some discussion about possibly treating that cluster at a later time if they didn't respond to chemo.

yes one node at the time
    Hi,
I had one node on the opposite side of the tumor so I was mapped and marked where that was and it was treated. After surgery, they removed 19 nodes and there was a cancer in another node and I was treated with post op chemo. They told me there was practically nothing left of the node that was originally radiated. Good luck!! get infusions during treatment and try to take in as much fluids as possible. I actually had to discontine my last two rad treatments but got most of them. take care,

    radiation
My husband has three nodal involvement, including the celiac node. He received radiation to all of the nodes. He had 27 of the 28 IMRT radiation treatments before becoming too ill. I hope this helps.

    God Bless,
