You would think I should get use to this by now, but NOT, I start taxotere on Friday for the other half of my treatment and I'm alittle nervous about it. Ladies, please tell me it's not that bad and what can I expect. I just can't wait till this is over, I hate it and could really use some positive thoughts on Friday.
((hugs))

    not bad at all...
    Darlene -
my mom had her halfway point chemo this week also - congrats on being halfway done!! It's only going to get better from here!
I had 2 rounds of Taxotere after 4 rounds of Cytoxan & Andriamycin (sp?) and I can tell you - the taxotere was MUCH easier to tolerate for me, and for many other women I've spoken to. I didn't feel as if I was walking around "in a fog" as much, I did not have as much physical pain (terrible back & joint pain with AC), not as much fatigue, and just didn't generally feel as bad as with the AC. The only side effects that were a pain for me were - about 2-3 days after receiving the taxotere, I would get really bad stomach cramps & , well, there's no nice way to say it, poop alot. Not diarrhea. But, i was constipated with the AC so going alot was better than not going at all. I also developed a hot, red rash on my hands & bottoms of my feet. First my palms got red & painful -if this happens (it is common with taxotere) call your Onc IMMEDIATELY - they can give you steroids for it. The 1st infusion of T i waited a few days until I saw my Onc again before I got the steroids & literally almost all of the skin on my hands ended up drying out & peeling off. The 2nd time though, I called as soon as the redness began & it was much milder, just some drying & itching. I'm 4 weeks past my last chemo now & my hands are still a little dry, but you can't even tell the rash was ever there by looking at it.
I think you will do just fine :) Best of luck to you on Friday.
    *hugs*

    From one Renee to another
Don't worry sweetie--you'll do great. I had all 3 at once--Taxotere, Adriamycin and Cytoxin for 6 rounds. Honestly, for me, it went very well. The first couple of days after treatment I had a combo of diarrhea/constipation but did not have nausea, vomiting, mouth sores, rashes or any of the other side effects that sometimes occur. I did have aches and pains after my Neulasta shot for a few days.

I forced myself to think positive, and just know in my heart that I would do well. I willed it and it happened.

Best of luck--we're all pulling for you.

    Hugs, Renee
