CA125 rising slowly....

Well, I guess I knew it. I always try to be positive but....that little bit of fear comes sneaking in. Had my doctor office visit today and the CA125 was up a little more. Now it is out of the normal range. Last month it had risen 4 points.. now it has risen 3 more points. I am at 37.4.

I have been on the Metformin for a month now and he want me to stay on it 2 more months and then I will get a PET/Scan. I had my last scan in September, so the next one will be in December.

I guess I will try to enjoy the next two months without chemo.

    Sorry to hear about the rise, but it is a small rise and you have 2 months without chemo!! Please do try to enjoy them. My mother had the same situation..we knew she would probably go back to the chemo so we just had a grand old time until that happened....Also, you might want to think about looking into a trial if you need chemo...they have been doing some amazing things with PARP inhibitors and we spent the next 2 months looking into those and got Mom into one!!!

    Yes, it is scary. As long as you are symptom free and feeling well. I think that becomes the goal even though we yearn to be NED again. I've been on chemo since January with little success but I am grateful that I remain symptom free.

    Hang tight...December will be here soon enough.

    Question about metformin
    Why is metformin used for cancer? I have always thought of it as a diabetes med. Thanks for the info.

    Helps with Cancer
    Hi Wendy, Yes it is a diabetes med. But they have found that it is helping cancer patients. And with different kinds of cancer too. My doctor said that they have found that it helps those who have been on it for diabetes, that it is protecting them from getting cancer. And those that have cancer, it helps in keeping the cancer in check. It won't kill the the cancer cells. But if I can just pop a pill for the rest of my life and it will keep my cancer at a standstill....then I am all for it. I will find out how it is working for me in a couple of months when I get my next PET/Scan.

    Linda....have you
    Linda....have you experienced any side effects from the Metformin? My husband has Type II Diabetes and has taken it for years. He has to watch for signs of low blood sugar, as Metformin can lower it pretty suddenly. Just curious if that happens with people who have normal pancreatic function.

    No Side Effects ....Yet
    Hi Carlene,
    So far ...so good. I haven't had any side effects yet. I have only been on it for a month but I will let you know if anything changes. I am praying that it works for me.
