Hi, my name is Mark Smith. I am 57 years old, married and living in Indiana. I had stage two colon cancer (sigmoid) five years ago this month. Went through surgery and six months of chemo. Just found out cancer is back in the ascending colon. Not sure what stage or if I will need to take chemo again. I do know I will need surgery again. Amazing how your world can be turned upside down over night. I know I am not alone and covet everyones prayers.

    that sucks, Mark
so sorry for your news. You fought hard last time, I'm sure you'll fight again this time. Weird that it returned in the colon, that's unusual! I pray God will give you strength and the courage to face what you have coming ahead. Stay strong and keep us posted.

    Hi, Mark.

I'm sure it really hurt to have it come back after 5 years, the "magic" number that people cite all the time. I'm so sorry!

Praying that this will be a simple fix and not a major setback.

    *hugs*

    Awful
So sorry that you are going through this again. This has to be terrible news. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Hopefully it will be an early stage so they can do surgery and then not have to do chemo.

Hi Mark, welcome aboard. So sorry to hear about the return of the cancer. I guess the good/bad is that you are prepared for what is ahead. Sometimes the fear of the unknown is overwhelming. I pray that what you hear next will help you get some peace and know that you are stronger this time and can and will beat it again. Best to you. Jean

    me too
I just got home from the hospital from surgery to remove a re-occurrence from my asending colon after 4 1/2 years NED. It sucks and yes my last tumor was in the sigmold as well. Docs say no relationship between the two tumors like that matters. I know I am looking at chemo again and that sucks more. Hope chemo is not in your future.

    Sending them up.....
You and I are about the same distance out from colon cancer (6 years ago, Thanksgiving)...I am now holding my breath...

I HATE that this shadow follows all of us, and sometimes, like with you, catches up!!!!!

Please keep us posted, and welcome to the site (were you here before?).

Hi mark....so sorry to hear about the beast's return after 5 years. I have had two re-occurrences...from colon to liver and and second time back to the liver. I want to tell you that I found the mets to liver almost as blasting and ground shaking as the first cancer. You feel you are sneaking away from the beast....you've done your chemo and bang it's back.

it is also true that you have done it once .....you can do it again and again....absorb this news, find your new path and on you go. Welcome welcome and hugs.

let us know how things develop

    Welcome back
    Mark,

Having a recurrance really sucks, I'm so sorry you are having to face this yet again. As others have already said, you beat it before and you will do it again. I guess the good news is. Since you have been through it before you know what is coming and can prepare mentally for this next fight. Did you ever live in San Jose, CA? I knew a Mark Smith when I was in San Jose. I know it's a common name, just thought I would ask.

    Hi Mark....
We are so sorry that your cancer came back. Five years is the year we all pray we hear that we're healed and cured. How devastating to know it's back.

You've been through this fight before and you can do it again. We wish you well with surgery and please, keep us updated.

Yep, we know all too well how the world changes with three words. You are right though -- prayers galore and you're not alone. :)

Welcome to our little corner of the world.

    Love and Hugs

    Sorry about your news
Totally sucks! Five years NED you think you've got it beat.

But to turn it around, you got five good years in to rest up before returning to battle.
Mine just returned after only 3 months NED. No rhyme or reason to this awful cancer.

Life upside down again - I get that one. I'm so sorry that you do too. I hope it is early staged again and whatever you have to do to beat it isn't too tough.
