Did all of you that had a reoccurance of your cancer take the 5 year pill? Femara, Tamoxifen, Arimidex or Aromisin. I am just curious and I hope you don't mind the question. I was wondering why they tell us to take it for 5 years and I hear so many people getting it back in 7-10 years. It must make the odds better?
Thanks.

I did not take the 5 year
I did not take the 5 year pill, oncologist told me would not work for my type of cancer. My reoccurance occured 2 years after my original diagnosis and 1 year after i completed treatment.

I remember that some on here
I remember that some on here that have or had a recurrence took the hormone therapy. I am sure that they will post about it. I think someone on here or a couple didn't take radiation and had a recurrence, but, I can't remember who it is now.

How are you doing now on chemo Meena?

Hello Wanda, I was on Tamoxifen for 6 months prior to the cancer returning. Once it returned I did not go back on it since it did not work for me the first time. On the other hand my sister was put on it after her second bout with cancer and it kept it at bay for 5 years with little side effects.

Interesting subject .. I have my last chemo this
coming Friday .. herceptin // finished TCH 6 cycles or in my case 18 weeks straight .. and my ONC has said nothing about taking any medication after chemo finishes. Interesting indeed .. writting all this down so I can discuss with Onc on Friday.

Thank you all for sharing your stories..

I have always wondered about this, as, it does seem like many with recurrences had taken some form of the hormone therapy treatment. Thanks for this post.

    I began taking Arimidex in
I began taking Arimidex in January '09, after completing chemo and rads for IDC. My cancer recurred in July '10. I have not meet with my onco to get the answer to the million dollar question....what's next? I've had a bilateral mastectomy so we'll see.

I just started chemo last week but I was told I would be on Tamoxifen or Arimidex following treatment. I had bilateral mastectomy w/no lymph node involvement. I have 2 sisters who are 8 year survivors and 1 took Tamoxifen and the other Arimidex. Neither of them had side effects that would have encouraged them to stop taking the "pill". I hope this helps.

    Triple negative BC
Since I have triple negative breast cancer I did not take any hormone drugs. They would not have helped my cancer type. Now that I have recurrance I will be looking for a new regimen to stop the new tumor growth.

My doctor told me I should take the Tamoxifen for 5 years. My question is do you begin taking Tamoxifen after chemo or after chemo and radiation. Can you take Tamoxifen and radiation at the same time.

This is a great post! I, for one, decided against taking tamox for now. I don't know if I will in the future or not. Wishing you all the best whether you take the hormone therapy or not.
