Hi, Canjuncutie . . .

I saw your post on another thread about losing a breast and trying to get information from others who have been there. There are others on this site who have been through that - and I am one of them. I lost my rt breast to a stage 1B cancer (under 2 cm and micrometasteses in two sentinel lymph nodes - not discovered until path reports after my mastectomy). Everyone's cancer is different, of course, and I was given the choice of having either a lumpectomy or a mastectomy. I am a little bit older than you (ok - 13 years). I read as much information as I could and made the decision to have the mastectomy (I wanted to take the more aggressive road, and I thought that by doing the mast, I wouldn't need to do rads, which I ended up needing to do anyway.) Even with still having to do rads anyway, I do not regret my decision to have the mastectomy.

I don't know what your situation is - if you'll have a choice or not. Anyway, I really just wanted to let you know that you'll make it through it - many of us have lost either one or both breasts. Many have chosen reconstruction, and others (like me) have not chosen to do reconstruction.

Please keep posting and ask the questions that you have. There are many here who will reply and give you support. I hope, first of all, that you have doctors that you feel good about - that you trust. That was one of the things that really helped me get through it.

I was diagnosed in January - surgeries in Feb - rads April through May - now on Arimidex for the next 5 years.

Wishing you all the best -

♥ Lynn ♥

    I Never Saw
I never saw a post from Canjancutie. But I do want her to know that I was dx 2 1/2 years ago and opted for a single masectomy w/out reconstruction. My lymph nodes were clear and my Onco Type score was low so I started the aromotase drugs - tried two different ones and had problems with both so now I'm on Tamoxifen which is somewhat better. Do I sometimes wish I had two boobs - you bet (but then if I had a wish it would be the same as all of us - never to have gotten breast cancer to begin with). However, I do know I made the best decision for ME and you will need to make the best decision for YOU. You know yourself the best and after talking with your doctors you will have the info you need to make what is right for you.

Good wishes on your decision. Hugs, Sally

    Another one, here
I also had a unilateal mastectomy 4 years ago. Nodes clear, margin clear. No rads, no chemo. Would I do it again?? You betcha, although I am an older lady, and probably not the same situation as you, Canjancutie. However, you can have recon. I chose not too, but in the future, that choice can change too.

Best wish, Canjancutie, in whatever you decide.
