There's a tool box in my chest

So I wake up this morning, need I say the painkillers had worn off, and
to my surprise what do I find but a tool box in my chest!! Am a turning
into the woman of a handy man's dream?

Ladies, who just had their mastectomy take it from me keep taking
those painkillers. And save yourself the above mentioned life changing
question.

It will get better right?

    Yes, sweet sister~ quite a shock when the painkillers wear off, isn't it? There is a reason why the docs want us to keep on top of the pain rather than having to chase it!

    hee hee remember I said you
    hee hee remember I said you couldn't drive cause you'd be doped to the gills....well girlfriend...you need to stay doped to the gills until you are healed...It will get better..and sooner than you think...hang in there...

    Surgery
    I'm having my surgery on Tuesday - I will remember your advice to try to keep ahead of the pain. Although, as I remember from my last mastectomy, the pain didn't last too many days; I was surprised how quickly I felt better. Good luck and I hope you feel better soon!

    And you were so right. I understand now and I actually
    use my kitchen timer to remind me to take my pills every
    180 minutes. How's that?

    Dear Aysemari,

    Yes, it will get better. And you're doing the right thing by setting that timer! Don't forget pain meds constipate you, though, so keep on top of that!

    Did you have immediate reconstruction? I can't remember ... I did and found that taking the muscle relaxers helped me more than the narcotics.

    It can and will get better! And once you get those drains out, it is amazing how much better you'll feel.

    This is the hardest part of the surgery recovery!

    Did you by any chance have a "free flap" reconstruction? I am trying to decide between that and an implant. Concerned about taking muscle from abdomen.

    I chose
    mastectomy with immediate reconstruction. I am going
    for implants. At first I felt strange about having foreign
    objects in my body but what the heck, women do it all
    the time.

    A strange feeling has come over me, I am very much at
    peace and happy to have made it through chemo. In a way
    I am also impatient to get going and it is hard to have to lie
    still. I am so much more conscious about the state of my
    mind and body. I can see how some people think of cancer
    as a hard lesson.

    mine feels really edgy and heavy, so the first
    thing that came to my mind was a tool box!

    Mine hurt so bad, but the
    Mine hurt so bad, but the fills made it better. So, know that the feeling DOES get better. For the first several weeks, I could feel the expanders shift on the left side, scraping the chest wall. But as the expanders became more full, they didn't do that anymore.

    It gets better, Ayse, it really does!

    Tool Box..... great analogy.

    I feel like I have rocks...... Just attached to my body.

    It does get better..
