edited March 2014 in Ovarian Cancer #1
Thought I'd change my profile picture as after 3 months post chemo my hair is growing back nicely and reflects my life at the moment. I have just had a lovely holiday in the Canary Islands (Fuerteventura) and was unable to resit getting a sun tan. I know I was supposed to wear SPF 50 but I couldn't help myself and used SPF 20 and got myself a bit of a tan.

Not sure if any of you remember but I am BRCA2+ and have been recommended to the Breast Institute for an examination. My cancer is not OVCA but PPC so I have not had any surgery as my ovaries were healthy. Anyway, I went along for my appointment and was given a physical exam and was pronounced HEALTHY.....yea, the first time I have been told there was nothing wrong with me for ages :) I was also told it is recommended for me to have an Oophorectomy (removal of my ovaries, not my "Oophs as my husband jokingly said!!!")

My Gyn/onc wants to wait before he does the procedure, to make sure my cancer remain stable as an operation could disturb any cells and distribute them to other organs (as not all cells have been killed off with the chemo).

All in all I left the Breast Institute feeling really happy and positive - the first time I have felt like that about my health in a year.

Much love to you all Tina xxxx

    too cute !
awwww Tina your picture looks lovely. You seem very relaxed and happy. I'm sure the a little sun couldn't hurt...I live in Wisconsin and have problems with low vitamin D levels so trying to get sun is always a challenge for me.

So happy to hear your news of good health.

be well and enjoy the day.....Paula

My gyne-onc actually said "I like tans" when I walked in with 1.
You look WONDERFUL! Relaxed, at peace with your journey and the depth it has added to who you are. (((hugs))))

I garden a lot and although I wear sunscreen, my face, neck, arms and back always have a 'farmer's tan' from spring to fall. Then this spring I went on 9-day tropical cruise and I just got back Saturday from a week at the beach with my extended family, so I'm really tanned right now. I came into my pre-chemo appointment today apologizing for the tan, but my gyne-onc immediately shushed me and said, "I love tans. They tell me you're living your life."

My chemo-onc said that taxol makes you more sun-sensitive, and that I was to wear at least a SPF30 at the beach and a hat. Even with the precautions my tan deepened so it must be true that taxol makes you more sun-sensitive.
