Hi all! I am getting ready for my 5th chemo treatment and have handled everything pretty well but the longer this goes on the more weary I become. I know it is short-term but sometimes I get really frustrated with the side effects. My last treatment is July 15th and I will have surgery a few weeks after that date, followed by radiation. Thank you and good luck to each of you in your own personal battle. We can kick it's butt!!! Big hugs to all!!

    Hi! I'm at 9 1/2 weeks out
Hi! I'm at 9 1/2 weeks out from my last one, and just noticed this weekend I had my first "perfectly normal" day. Ran a mile and a half, and felt good afterwards. Today, I went on a, uh, slightly over ambitious hike haha, and afterwards thought, hm I shouldn'ta done that.. I think it's something about the heat. Heat just saps me, more than I remember it doing before all this. So, I'm not back to normal 100% of the time, but I'm feeling pretty darn good most of the time. I have *energy*! Woohoo! Now the hair thing, that's another story. I'm growing hair, but it's really thin. Like 45% of what it should be. So bummed about that. I don't even have a suitable "buzz cut" going yet :(
    Hope this helps :)
Take care, Dawn! You're almost done with chemo, yeeeeeah! Good luck on surgery and radiation! You got this, it's in the bag!

I had a tough time with chemo and was really debilitated. more than alot, not all. but Ihad to have PT. during rads the rads doc would say every week away from chemo you look better and better. It was true. I finished rads May 13, and have noticed more energy, better appetite.it gets slowly better until you are seeing yourself do more and more. I still ave decreased stamina and am tired but I am encouraged. I was not able to work and have been stressing about going back too soon. My sense of humor is returning and as I feel better my attitude improves, I just thank God every day for all the small things I can do, like cook and grocery shop. Having said this I rest when I need to I sleep when I need to. and I ask for help when I need to. I can no longer push myself beyond anymore but that may not be a bad thing.

    Hello Putzie
It take about a year for the chemo to get out of your body. It take almost a year to start feeling like your self. Because after chemo you have to take radiation and that make you tried. So I will say it take a whole year to feel good. Pleas do not rush the healing process and listen to your body when it time to rest stop and rest. Continue to drink plenty of water to flush the toxcin out of your body. Eat right and celebrate that you have finish this mile stone.

    Good Luck

Thanks Emily for the uplifting note. I have enjoyed all of your posts as you are very upbeat!!! I have been playing golf some and did a bit of hiking in Colorado last month but so very limited compared to what I was used to doing! It is hard for me to just "sit" but I have been learning to do that when I need to. The heat is really bothering me as well. I am in Missouri and it has been in the 90's with 100 heat index. Needless to say, I have been staying in more and that kind of depresses me. I am so looking forward to the day when I feel "normal" again!!! I am even excited about my surgery and radiation, just knowing chemo will be done.
Time for you to put up a new pic...."Way past chemo...and fuzz on top"!!!!!!
Keep up the good work and thanks for the post!!!

It sounds like you are doing better carkris!! I think I was hoping for quicker recovery as I just think this cancer thing is a bad dream so it is so helpful to talk and share stories with other people. Every day is a day closer to healing for all of us. Thank you for the post!!

1.5 mile run darn you make me feel like a slacker. My legs ache all the time don't know why. Never had this problem before chemo.

Thank you Barbara for the advice. This site is helping me so much with the healing and bits of depression I get sometimes!! I am realizing I need to get my body healthy before I can start to get it back in shape. I have gained weight which has really bummed me out. I am trying to walk on the treadmill when I can and walk my dogs but whew...I can't do what I am accustomed to doing and it is frustrating! July 15th will be last treatment and in the meantime I am going to really work on the nutrition aspect....and lots of water, too!!!! Good luck to you as well and thank you for your imput!!!!

    Good Luck, Dawn
Looks like you & I are almost on the same time-table, my 5th chemo is 6/25 & my last one w/b 7/16. I know exactly what how you fee - my first 2 treatments were a breeze, 3rd one was no picnic, 4th even worse, so now I'm dreading 5th this Friday. I thought things were supposed to get easier, not worse. I think your positive attitude will pull you through with flying colors, God speed!

    together we will get through
together we will get through our last 2 chemos...just think of what we have accomplished so far!!! Let's not dread the last two, let's just celebrate the fact we are almost done!!! Heck, we can do ANYTHING two times!!! My hubby and I scheduled a trip for 4 days before the last one so that I have something to look forward to. Maybe you can do something similar. Let's touch base after your treatment Friday....You Go Girl!!!!!!

Dawn .. My experience has been the same as CARKRIS
My oncologist sent me to any PT for extreme FATIGUE. I am still going .. 12 weeks, twice a week.

I've been out of heavy dose of my chemo .. since late December 2009, but have continued with Herceptin - 1 time every 3 weeks ..

Some days are better than others .. but I FIGHT each and everyday ... otherwise, I would just curl up in a ball, and sleep.

Best of Luck .. Strength and Courage for YOU, Dawn.

    I hate to brag....
but I really got right back to normal very quickly. In fact there are days when I feel stronger than I felt before chemo. I still have a little numbness on the soles of my feet at night.

    Hey putz
I'm 5 months past chemo and just lost my brows and lashes for the 3rd time. The fatigue is gone, I'm healed from lumpectomy and radiation now. I feel like I can walk for miles, while I was on chemo I could hardly walk across the room. Hair is just an inch long now. I just wonder why the brows and lashes keep falling out?

    I asked the same question
    Hi Dawn,
I finished chemo first week of Feb - no rads - and attended my daughter's wedding on the 27th of February - with lots of energy. I felt pretty good by then but now I feel great. I still have some of the chemo brain stuff going on but that's getting a little better, too. When I saw the oncologist at 3 months, he said my bloodwork was all back to normal so I think my body recovered pretty well after my 4 rounds of T/C.

I ran a lot before all this
I ran a lot before all this b/c I do wildland firefighting, and I've always been the smallest even for a girl, so had to develop a "do it anyway" attitude over the years. I tried to keep at least walking a mile or two a day through chemo except for chemo week, and I think that helped a lot. And now I'm determined to run again asap. I'm dizzy by the time I hop off my treadmill, so possibly I should *not* be doing this, haha, but I *want* to, so I'm going to do it anyway (: Lots of determination.

Laurissa and Girls ... I too have my eye lashes
coming out in buckets ... I woke up this morning and I missing a section top right eye.. What gives ..???

I go for another Herception treatment next Tuesday, and I figure I will ask my Oncologist, even though I am sure he will tell me this can not be true. He is a fire cracker!

Someone told me our lashes and brows can come out
several times because they pretty much came out all at once (over a 2 or 3 week period of time) and we normally lose brows and lashes almost daily but one at a time. So ours come in pretty much within a month's time so when they do their normal cycle of coming out they do it pretty much all at once again. I'm on my second go. Eventually they will sort themselves out and be like before. Anyway, that's what I heard and it makes sense...

My last chemo was 12-11 (no rads) and while I starting feeling pretty good by Feb-March I didn't have much stamina but almost six months to the day I actually changed my sheets and duvet cover on my bed (king)without Ralph's help and wasn't even winded when I got thru! Can you imagine being excited changing a bed? What a hoot. I still need 8 hrs sleep and if I'm really busy for a day or two I need to take a break the third day and "hang out".

But I'm older than a lot of you (67) and chemo hit me really hard so maybe that's why it's taking longer...of course I've never run a mile and a half in mhy life!

    Hugs all, Judy :-)
