Non Hodgkin Lymphoma

I have recently started R EPOCH chemotherapy for Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma. Can somebody clarify something for me. I know that the next chemo cycle starts in 21 days. But, do you count 21 days from the starting date of the last chemo cycle or do you count 21 days from the last day the previous chemo ended.

I started my second chemo cycle on June 3rd and it ended on June 9th. My Oncologist wants me to start my third chemo cycle on June 24th. I'm really scared...and when I questioned him he said that he starts counting the 21 days from the starting date of the last chemo cycle not the last day of the chemo cycle.

Can somebody please clarify this for me...I don't want to get on my Oncologist's bad side.....I'm very confused

    Hi, first off, please don't worry about getting on your Oncologist's bad side, he works for you, ask as many questions as you need too..... as far as the treatment schedule goes, I had my first treatment Jun 16th, my next treatment date is the 30th of Jun, of course I have to go in on the 23rd for blood work. You should be going in for blood work the week after your treatment to check your blood counts, hope this helps! Vinny

    I did not have your specific type of chemo but just recently finished RCHOP. I know that R EPOCH was also in consideration for my type of NHL. The cycles run from start date to start date, not end date, so your Onc is correct that every 21 days would be June 24th for you. I hope this helps clarify for you. How are you doing with your chemo? And if I may ask what type of Lymphoma do you have?

    Yes
    It was from the day of treatment for me too. I had about 7 really good days out of 21.

    Bless your heart dear;) Thank you for ending my doubt. I was diagnosed with NHL in April of this year and I'm also HIV positive. The NHL is an identifying disease of HIV. I have responded quite well to the chemo. I only had nausea after the Neulasta injection but nothing during of after the chemo therapy. I get anemic though but I've always been prone to anemia.

    How are you doing Leslie? Which cancer do you have? If I may ask

    Wow.....sounds like your plate is very full. But so glad you are responding to your treatments. I have a very rare form of B & T cell NHL called LPD, lympho proliferative disorder caused by the immunosupressing drugs I took for my Rheumatoid Arthritis. My disease is also found in people who have had organ transplants, SCT, BMT and also people with HIV. Anyone who has a compromised immune system. As I said I finished RCHOP in February and am currently in complete remission. But the docs don't know if they can keep me there so now it is a waiting game.

    My blood counts now are all over the place and I am also anenic. And have pretty awful fatigue which for a time was getting better but now seems to be getting worse.

    How many more chemos do you have to do? It is a challenge but is very doable.

    I can't answer your question but do want to echo the sentiment of others about getting on your docs bad side. You are going to be in the medical system for a while and should remember that everyone has been hired by you to do a job. Of course you feel vulnerable and dependent on them but it isn't your responsibility to cater to real or imagined narcissistic tendencies of your care providers. I'm a physician and I feel strongly about the matter. If you are having trouble with this you should talk to an oncology social worker, or someone on the staff who you see as neutral to help you through the feelings. Be well.

    By all means if you have any questions ask. They do work for you. I call the onc nurse when ever I have any questions. They are there to answer any and all questions. This is all new stuff to us and we need the answers. It is all we have to go by. You can check the many different sites on the computer for answers, but you have to be careful about the site you get on. Some are so outdated and give old info, not updated. I am sure other people on this site can back what I am saying up. There is a lot of useful things on various sites, but like I was saying just check the date on it first.
