What would be a good fathers day gift?

Hi All!
Never before have I really put that much thought into fathers day. My dad just sees it as another day, but this year will definitely be special for all of us. I'd like to think of something meaningful to get get him. Anything to lift his spirits, keep him comfortable, etc. FYI- he doesn't really like to read (he falls asleep easily), he's diabetic (so "treats" are kind of limited), he has an ipod, and enough warm blankets for chemo treatments. Any suggestions?

    Glad you posted this---I like the ideas. I am struggling too---during my dad's EC journey we have been through a Christmas & Birthday. I have gotten him some of those ideas---but realize that I would love to give him something that has NOTHING to do with cancer this time. i realize how things have changed---but I know he wish he could just go back when he didn't have have cancer. We all know that doesn't really happen, but know that doesn't mean that maybe I can figure out something fun for him---that he doesn't already have.

    He is a Nascar Fan and lives in NC, so if I can afford or figure out some kind of "experience" I may see if siblings can pitch in....He used to drive stick- racing cars as a twenty something=so that would be neat---but that maybe too ambitious... We have considered flights to come out to see us (we live a 12 hr drive at least away), but that seems selfish on my part and they don't like to fly... He has all the t-shirts, PJs, gadgets. tools, etc he could wish for...

    I think I am going to try to make an original art item somehow incorporating photos or images from our last visit (including my sisters kids-?

    I will keep brainstorming---maybe we all can throw out ideas??? Our dads are all different---but we may be able to inspire each other---and I need help!

    Father's Day Gift
    Hello Everyone,

    I too was in the same position 2 years ago, wondering what to give my Dad for father's day, in the back of my mind was that haunting thought, this would be the last Father's Day with my Dad, it was. I searched for the perfect gift.

    Here is what I did, I made a book of all of the prayers I said each day for my dad, I pasted each prayer on a piece of parchment paper and then mounted it on a scrap booking paper and then slip it into a scrap book, book.

    I have the prayer book saved in a file, my husband and I just tried to send it through the site but we could not figure out how to send attachments so I will send you my e-mail and you can e-mail me and then I will forward the prayer book to you.

    I also gave my dad a Livestrong T-shirt, he was never the type of man to wear t-shirts, he was a golf shirt type of man but he got that Livestrong shirt and wore it to chemo many times. I just wanted it for the message, just wanted to give another idea.

    Dad's birthday was right after father's day at that point was was out of ideas so what I did was gave a gift certificate to where he was getting his RX's. I know it is not very creative but thought I would share that idea too.

    Funny stuff!
    We all know that laughter is the best kind of medicine so I think I'm going to buy something for my dad that will make him smile; especially when he may not be feeling so good. In the past, whenever he's been in the hospital, we would watch the Jerry Springer show. I know it sounds ridiculous, but that's what's so funny about it! In other circumstances, we would never watch the show, but it's just so silly! Also, my dad and I have watched magic shows on tv and are always fascinated by the tricks, so I think I'm going to buy him Jerry Springer's greatest shows, and a dvd of David Blaine or Kris Angel. Everyone, whether friend or family, is going to give gifts that are sentimental, sweet, and I'm sure cancer-related. I just want to add a bit of levity to this stressful situation. What do you think? :)

    picture book
    My sister and I are putting together a book for him with some old and new pictures of us and him with us and the grand children and all that good stuff.

    You all are the best! I have told everyone how much this site has guided me and taught me about EC. I feel truly blessed to have found such a supportive group!

    Could I be so bold as to say
    I wish I had seen this sooner? I think our t shirts would be great gifts. We have one that says Esophageal cancer survivor and another that says esophagectomy--this side up :) And of course, so many other with great positive messages. You can see them at clubnedwear dot com :)

    We also have quilt blocks now...so you can make a quilt!

    Another idea is to have everyone you know write about your dad, and go to blurb.com and then take those writings and put them into book form. It is inexpensive but so cool. A true treasure.
