Wine/breast cancer/Tamoxifen

Ok, I am ER+ and PR+ and on Tamoxifen. I know that because my cancer is estrogen driven, alcohol is not a good idea at all. But, I love my nightly wine. So, my question is, shouldn't the Tamoxifen counteract the alcohol and lessen my chance for recurrence? I haven't had any wine for a while so it's not a matter of if I can stop or not. I've just been reading about the high risk for recurrence even with a few glasses of wine a week but I haven't seen if Tamoxifen can help prevent it.

Any idea?

I know there has been a lot
I know there has been a lot written on this. I still drink wine or beer if I want. I am enjoying my life and if I want a drink, I am going to have one. I am sure someone will post some information on the articles that have been written. I just don't remember what they said. Good luck Patti!

My doctor did not say I
My doctor did not say I can't enjoy a drink. She just said not to over do it. If I drink wine right now I have a hot flash with it. However a Rum & coke goes down well.

    I was told....
I was told to limit alcohol consumption to no more than one drink per day. I did my own research and found one of the reasons why. The liver treats alcohol as a toxin. The liver also processes estrogen out of the body. If we keep our liver busy handling the alcohol, it cannot do the job it should be doing by removing stray estrogen. I'm not sure how the tomoxifen factors in because I'm on Arimidex. Maybe that's the difference. I was told by my oncologist that more than 7 drinks a day doubles my recurrence rate. This is a good question for your oncologist but personally I think it sucks. I really miss my wine and I'm not satisfied with on glass. I've lost some weight since cutting out the extra caleries. Guess that's a silver lining.

    Makes sense
That makes sense about the liver treating alcohol like a toxin and that is also rids estrogen.

Well, I guess that answers that....an occasional glass or two will have to do!

I am looking forward to losing a few pounds, too!

    Thanks!
