edited March 2014 in Ovarian Cancer #1
I am a 44yr old woman from Southern NJ. I would just like a minute to tell my story. For a few months I had been feeling bloated and felt pulling on my side. I finally went to my GYN to have him see what was wrong. After an ultrasound, he told me that I had a growth on my uterus. There were 2 decisions that I could have taken:
1) Partial Hysterectomy or 2) Monitor it for another few months.
After talking it over with my husband, we opted to number #1.
When the day came for surgery, my husband and girlfriend sat waiting. They were initially told that it would be about 2 hours. After 5 hours the Doctor came out to talk to them.
The Dr attempted laparoscopic surgery. After a failed attempt to doing it that way, he had to open me up. Once he did, I had scar tissue that had formed over all of my organs. It took him a long time to separate all of the organs to get to the reproductive organs. Being a long time patient of his, he knew my medical history and that I had never had any other surgeries that could have caused this. He sent two frozens to the lab and waited for a reply. The first call came back, ovary was NEGATIVE for cancer. He questioned them about both samples but they only checked one. The second call came back POSITIVE for cancer in the fallopian tube. Thank the Lord that he pushed the issue of both or I might not be here to write this.
A GYNO Oncologist was called in and after 7 hours my husband was finally allowed to see me.
The diagnoses was stage 3B Primary Peritoneal Cancer (PPC). It hit hard like a freight train. I thought of my 6 year old and my husband living without me.
After being in and out of the hospital and 2 more surgeries, I began my chemo. But that is a story for later.
Just before Christmas, I was told that I was "CANCER FREE"!!! As of last week my CA1 was down to 13. Thank you, JESUS!
