Husband starts 2nd round of chemo tomorrow

Well were off for round 2 of chemo this week. He has done amazingly well with the first round of chemo and all the radiation so far. My husband is in the National Guard and has still been able to participate in PT (except for the week of chemo, he was really fatigued with that) and we work out most every day. He does have to take short naps during the day, so i'm optimistic about getting through this week. I know he'll be extremely tired this week, also this is the first time he's doing chemo and radiation together. I'm very proud of him and the fight he is putting up with this cancer.

Also, we just got news that he was approved for Social Security Disability. It only took them 3 weeks to make their decision and it was back dated to September. It's a godsend because we weren't sure what we were going to do financially as he has been laid off for the last several months with unemployment running out soon. So if anyone out there is in this situation, I encourage you to apply. We weren't going to at first because he didn't want to think of himself as disabled, but I guess this type of cancer is on the compassionate care list and they rush it through for a 30 day decision instead of waiting months. So with one less worry on our minds, we can focus on getting healthy!

    Our husbands tumors
    I was just reading your post and your husband and mine had their scopes the exact same day. Your husband symtoms and mine were a lot a like. I call it the day the bottom dropped out of my world. I bet you can relate to that.

    My hubby has had two rounds of chemo. He did great with both. Hope yours does great too.

    Hi David,
    My husband was diagnosed in Jan. At first we were optimistic that it was an early stage but the endoscopic ultra sound showed that there were active lymph nodes in the stomach. I am curious as to what type of surgery you had and the afteraffects. My husband has just completed his third round of continual chem for 5 days straight at UT Med Center in Knoxville, Tn. We are now awaiting the possiblilty of surgery within the next few weeks dependent upon how the chemo did. Could you give me some insight as to your current issues?

    Hi Anj and Rob,
    My prayers will be with you that the chemo and radiation goes well. So young, it is one thing to fight this EC when you are in your 60s but my heart breaks for the young people that come on the board. Wish someone would find out what in the world is happening? Rob sounds like he has the right stuff and will beat this monster. Glad you got disability so soon. take care, prayers always,

    Thanks for the recent update. So glad to hear that he is doing so well. His age, and the fact that he is in such good shape will be very helpful. It is wonderful that he was approved for disability so soon. Praise God! I know that he will continue to do well. You both have a great positive attitude, and that is so important to have in this battle. Keep in touch. Hugs to you both! Prayers will be continued daily.

    I'd like to hear more about your story.

    Thanks everyone for your support, got home a little while ago. We were able to even go shopping for a sofa for a little while afterwards. He resting or should I say sleeping comfortably now, keep waking him up every couple of hours to drink. He totally loses his appetite during chemo, but I do want to keep him hydrated all i can get him to drink is gatorade and I make him some shakes as well to get some calories in, after the week of his chemo he seems to bounce back pretty well.

    I all to well know that feeling of the bottom dropping out of my world. He came back safely from Iraq and I thought I could breathe a sigh of relief and know he wasn't going anywhere for awhile...then this!

    Best of luck to you too. Is he scheduled for surgery yet?

    Hi Peggy,

    I did not have lymph nodes active. They thought so at first, but proved not to be the case. Your husband's chemo sound s abit different than mine...

    I had an esophagectomy, most of it removed. I would be happy to share more.
