Horrible day

Oh, my. Y'all know I take care of my grandchildren every day. Yesterday Caroline, the 11 month old, was sitting on the kitchen floor playing. She leaned forward and lost her balance, hitting her forehead on the floor. I picked her up, expecting crying and a booboo. What I got was something so much worse. Her eyes rolled back in her head, her body went limp. My son in-law was there, thank goodness. I gave her to him while I called 911. While I was talking to the dispatcher, she went very cold in Kyle's arms and lost all color. Then her body started twitching. All of this time she had the most ungodly stare. She was definitely not aware of us at all. Paramedics came and gave her oxygen and checked her thoroughly. She was then taken to her doctor and watched very carefully through the night. She's okay, but I think all of us lost at least 10 years off our lives.

*hugs*
Gail

    I am glad she is

    How scary,

I am glad she is okay. That age is difficult, as they start manouvering on their own.

    Whew!
She was very perky yesterday. I was a little tired from not letting her hiney hit the floor all day. I carried, watched and fretted all day.

    Benign seizure
Gail, she sounds like she had a seizure. Our grandson had two as a toddler and underwent all sorts of testing but never had another. He just stared and twitched (second was during an EEG). Keep an eye on her in case she needs checking out!

Whew girl! That was very upsetting!

Wow, Gail- very scary and unnerving. As Diane said, I was also thinking it sounded like a seizure. Did they say anything like that? Watch her- what a scary thing!
Wonder if they could ever tell anything by a brain MRI. Not that you'd want to put a baby through that, but maybe the drs. will think it's a wise thing to have done.
    Praying for the baby-

    Wow!
    Hey, Gail

I think I just went thru 10 of those years with you!

That must have been completely mortifying to witness. I'm glad she is ok now and that's behind her. But for you guys, those moments must have seemed like an eternity...

    Glad you're feeling better too:)

    Bouncing babies
That's the kind of thing that would turn your hair instantly grey if it wasn't already. I am glad to hear your grand baby was not seriously injured but I am sure that scared the color out of your face. I thought I may have injured my niece one time by playing with her too rough and it scared the crud out of me and it wasn't nearly as bad as you are describing. Needless to say, I no longer rough house with my niece and nephew. Of course, yours is not a direct result of anything you did. It' s amazing how resilient kids are. I wish adults were that resilient.

    She's good!
Our little Caroline was happy and playing today and seems to have recovered very well. The doctor thinks she did have a seizure as a result of the hit to the forehead. She has not had seizures before, and I certainly hope this is the only one. Scared the crap out of me, and y'all know I have issues on that score. Little bit of gallows humor there, because I'm still crazy thinking about it.

    Gail,
    My daughter had a few

    Gail,
My daughter had a few of those from about age 2 to age 4. It was very scary. The first time I rushed her to the ER. She had all kinds of testing, including EKG, etc. The 2nd time, I took her to the Dr.s . They never ended up finding out anything. She is now 6 and hasn't happened in about 2 years. My mother said this happened to my sister when she was little.
I think it is fairky common.
