too much procrit led to blood clots? (and a grim blood clot question as well)

An uncle of mine (stage 4, diagnosed 2 years ago) who had a low RBC was given procrit...this isnt a problem since he was given it in the past (40K IU once a week for 4 weeks) and it worked well (RBC went above 11).
Now he had a low RBC level again in the beginning of the year, and his new onco gave him; 40K on jan 4, 40K on jan 6 (2 days later), and 2 weeks later: 40K on jan 18, and 40K on jan 20 (again, 2 days later).
in mid february he was in the hospital for a week due to developing a blood clot in one of his legs.
From what Ive searched around the internet so far, that seems like a VERY excessive amount of procrit. Can anyone offer any insight.

Also, Ive read that 95% of patients who develop a blood clot will die from it in 6 months. True?

    My husband developed blood
My husband developed blood clots in his legs last year, and the only way we found out about it was when he was diagnosed with Colon cancer in April. He had to have xrays and ct scan before surgery to see if cancer had spread and that is when they found the blood clots. two clots released and they found them in his lungs, one in each one. hospitalized & on coumadin ever since. he had a procedure done where they put a filter in his adomen to prevent further clots going to his lungs. The doctors stated his clots were caused by the cancer. No one gave him odds and here he is one year later, cancer free(due to surgery & chemo) and still on coumadin. good luck, not sure if this was any help. margaret

the "95%" statistic seemed a little odd to me, so i dunno if its accurate.
