My mom recently passed away. She was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1994. I won't go into her story but she had a new wig that she worn once to church and several new bras and 2 protesis. The bra's are in like new condition and the prothesis is a year old. I would like to know if I could donate these items somewhere. My mom was lucky and all items were covered by insurance but I know today many women do not have insurance. All of these things are clean and well taken care of, so does anyone know what I should do? I am north of Nashville TN. Thanks so much, and for all of you going thru cancer my heart and prayers goes out to you.-jennifer

    Hello Bizbeejm,
My wife Loni died from her cancer two months after the doctor told us that she was cancer free on December 9th, 2009. I'm just now getting back to this site to tell about it. that's all I'm going to say on the subject except that she did beat cancer for the third time. There are no garrenties how long it will stay that way. I too have Loni's wig that she never wore. She decided she liked the scarfs better ! I think I'll take Loni's wig to where she had two years of chemotheropy at, and see if they will find someone that can use it for free. It is an expensive wig and it's real cute. I have a box of crochet magazines to take there also, they sure came in handy for Loni until her hands hurt to much to do her crocheting anymore. I use to tell Loni knit one pearl two all the time. I know that's knitting . She was quite good ! All the crocheting things like the hooks and projects finised and otherwise I'll take to the church thrift shop. I haven't done a thing yet with any of Loni stuff, like clothes and such. I'm just now even thinking about that. Loni jewery is a whole other subject. Loni has a lot of it, she traveled all over the world and collected stuff as she did. Her wedding ring is all I really want to keep, it was her mothers, and her father's ring is my wedding ring. I'm not taking that off, ever! It fit me right off and didn't need any adjustments. It's beautiful and I loved it at first site. Loni told me i should use it when we got married and I also like the idea of it being her fathers ring. I do go on, and on ! Tom and Loni

    I'm so sorry, Tom
I can imagine how painful this must be for you. All of your words are touched with love for Loni. And how sad that they felt she had beat it only to have it come back with a vengeance. I will pray for you...

As far as donating items that are used for cancer patients, the ACS usually has a room set up for these items for others to share. The one in Vero Beach Fl has a fantastic assortment of everything from bras and books to wigs and hats. FREE!!! They are such wonderful people. So caring and giving!

See if there is a ACS office near you and check if they need the items.

    God bless,
    Lorraine

    Heartfelt condolences, Tom...
I am so very, very sorry to learn of Loni's passing. I've been a member here long enough to remember your posts on her behalf. She faught valiantly, with you by her side as her steadfast caregiver and supporter. You are precisely correct when you state: there are no guarantees.

She will always be with you, within your heart and your memories. Take good care of yourself, Tom.

    With sympathy, and...

    Kind regards, Susan

I'm so sorry for both of your losses.

It's so kind of you to think about giving to others at this time. I think the suggestion of contacting the nearest ACS is a good one, and I'm sure the recipients of your loving gifts will truly appreciate them.

Wishing you peace at this time of loss,
    Cindy

    To Jennifer...
So sorry for the loss of your mom. We are all breast cancer patients and survivors here - she was "one of us"... even if we did not have the honor of getting to know her.

I'd also suggest the American Cancer Society for the donations you'd like to pass along in order to help others. Or, the Susan G. Komen Foundation. You could also try the facility where your mom received her own treatment.

    Kind regards, Susan

A complementary wig and scarf service is available for patients undergoing inpatient and outpatient treatment. Wigs are donated from several national wig companies or purchased from donations made to Patient and Family Support Services. Styles and selection are sometimes limited based on donation shipments and supplies. Please call 615-343-7776 for more information.
FTR Many wigs given to the well known places are sent to their facilities for a "check up" and then distributed anywhere.; I preferred to have mine given to a local needy sister
    (in my state)
    Just my .02
    Peace

Thanks so much, I would love to know that her things could be used by someone. It's been hard going thru all her things.

    Bizy,

Have you tried the ACS (American Cancer Society)as they take those kind of items and pass them on to those in need. I just received a couple wigs from them.
