Okay, I had chemo for the first time in 5 weeks, I was off chemo in prep. for the Sir Spheres procedure. They did a cea it was 17.1 down from 32 tested many weeks ago. Urinalysis showed white blood cells, and hazy, they sent it off for a culture. They said it could be UTI or other things.(what other things?) They did a metabolic panel and my bilirubin .5 was fine but the alkaline phosphate was high. They called over to the Onc. office to let him know, he replied that he was not surprised with that number considering I just had the SS procedure. The nurses printed up information for me regarding these numbers, It appears it could be liver issues, infection, bone mets etc. Does anyone have any experience with the alkaline phosphate test? I can't seem to fine anything on here about it. I guess I will get a clear answer from the Interventional Radiologist next week . I would hope if my liver is struggling they would have withheld chemo. But I just don't have a lot of confidence in my Onc.I will be looking for another Onc. after the next SS procedure is done as the IR is in the same group with my Onc. It's just always something. Can't ever rest easy. Please let me know if you have any advice, information on any of this. Thanks, Patti

    Alkaline Phosphatase
    Patti,

Read more about Alkaline Phosphatase at http://labtestsonline.org/understanding/analytes/alp/test.html.

My AP was always in normal range up until the first reading after my liver resection at which point it went above range. For the past year it has been elevated and my last reading showed 362! This is 4X normal. My doctor doesn't appear to be overly concerned with the AP and is more concerned with bilirubin. I get steroids in my liver pump to try and bring the numbers down (my liver enzymes) but my doctor said they will just come down over time. I would bet that your own elevated number is due to the procedure you had and nothing else. I wouldn't get worried over stuff you read online (but I know that is hard!).

I hope you are feeling great!!

    Hi Patti
My AP went very high after liver resection (227 - normal 30-105). My surgeon attributed it to all the "banging around" they did in there. It stayed high for quite a while too if I remember correctly. That was over 5 years ago. I wouldn't try to read anything into it.

Just think, the cancer in your liver is being healed!! Yeah!
