I saw my surgeon today about my flipped port. He did not have an issue accessing my port. It was not flipped. The chemo nurse was wrong.


The results were also in from the slide sent to CA. and I am Her2 poaitive and will have to start taking Herceptin again after chemo is done. Good news is the Herceptin I have already taken will count towards my year. So my year will end on Nov 04 2010.


My 5th chemo is tomorrow. Send Prayers and good vibes my way. Only one more left after this one.

Good news about the port.  I couldn't imagine how in the world the thing would flip.  Hope you love your port as much as I love mine.  Can't imagine being poked and prodded every time for chemo.  I would have spent half the time passed out on the floor!


And ... the herceptin is a breeze.  I just have 2 more to go and my year will be up.  I almost hate to admit it ... but I'm not looking forward to the "end" of treatment (other than tamoxifen).  Every time I had chemo, herceptin or radiation ... I felt like I was actively doing something ... now after 2 more herceptin infusions ... I'll be on my own.  I guess the port stays in for about a year ... and I think I'll have to go back every 6 weeks or so to have the thing flushed (or whatever) ... so I I'll still see the wonderful crew at the center ... once in awhile.

Well good news is good news, indeed! I too was wondering how your port "flipped"...I am glad it is just fine, but wonder why the RN was wrong. A "regular" RN may not see many ports on a daily basis, but a chemo nurse? Interesting.....


You sound chipper and in good spirits~ awesome!!!! I am really glad your Herceptin counts as "time served"! LOL

I am usually a lot better by the end of the second week after chemo. Almost my old self minus hair. I do have some fuzz coming back in and my husband told me this morning that it is gray. Don't know what to think about that yet. Never had much gray before chemo. But I guess I will take what I get after all I can change it later if I want to.


I mentioned to my onc's nurse about the chemo nurse making the mistake about my port and she told me to ask for someone else. I go to a satelite lab that is closer to my home but still affilated with the University of Miami Cancer Institute and they only have 4 chemo nurses on site. 2 male and 2 female. One of the male chemo nurses actually gave me chemo last time and I may ask for him again. He had no problem accessing my port. It was one of the female nurses who made the mistake about my port and I probably won't let her try again.

I'm glad your port is fine and sorry you had to go through the anxiety of thinking it was flipped. I'm also HER2+ and on Herceptin until Oct. It's not bad and a lot easier then chemo! I get benedryl with the herceptin so I'm sleepy that day but back to work the next.

Glad your port is okay. Don't worry about the Herceptin. It's not at all like chemo. Just takes a while to get finished. I was told to thank God that we have Herceptin. Good luck.

Happy that everything is working out, very happy to know your port is fine, i love having my port i have had one nurse who had a problem with it and i don't let her stick me any more she was unable to get blood to come out of it no one has that problem but she does so now i ask for the other nurse to stick me.girl power

I am glad your port situation is under control.  You know, my port is what the nurses described as wobbly.  If the nurse doesn't feel where the port is and hold it, it is like a scene out of Friday the 13th.  Oh yes.  I had this nurse miss the mark and I thought I was going to lose all bodily functions.  I love her to pieces and she is really nice but I go to the station of the nurses who know how to deal with this.
