    Nothing to it,Heather
Follow your doctor;s instruction as to what to eat/drink days prior as well as what meds/vitamins to stop taking. The night before the colonoscopy you'll drink 64 ounces of some flavored powder you mix with water thats gonna knock the **** out of you like water bursting thru a dam to clean out your insides. You usually get anesthesia prior to the insertion of the flexible tube into your rectum/ You will not (should not) feel it, maybe a little sore when you wake half hour or so later. Thats how mine went. hopefully, you will be given good news. If you are under50 your mother probably has a very good reason for you to do this. Do NOT BE AFRAID-this simple test can save your life if it detects any sign of cancer ....Steve

    Mine was mainly few hours
should be real bad for a few hours with a few urges here and there after the main barrage . Hopefully what you were given to take works the same way as mine, I drank Half Litely with only 2 of those pills. When I felt I was OK(that is, felt like nothing coming-and I was doing this with a painful tumor incubating at the end of my rectuM_) took car service to doctor;s office (not supposed to drive after scan_)bEING THAT YOU ARE DRINKING SOMETHING DIFFERent, I can only assume you will have same results. As for scan itself, like I said,it should be painlessand quick..(Sorry about your mom;mine went last Nov and it still hurts)..Steve

    Screening Colonoscopy
    Heather,
I really cannot add anything to what the others said, but the most difficult part
is the preparation. Just follow the doctors instructions and you will be fine.

I was sedated during mine , felt no discomfort, etc.

It is important that you go ahead and have the test done.

    Blessings,
    Amy

Mom's know about these things. Always listen to your mom. I wish my mom had told me to get a colonoscopy. I bet yours will come out fine. At least you will know what is in there.

say it loud and say it proud
i wish more know about colonoscopy. im not afraid to talk about it.. i wish dr would not say that you should get one by the age of 50 i think it should be much sooner... my mom was a very smart beautiful woman and the courage she showed me taught me alot.. but i wish someone could have told her to get one sooner.. she was sick for several years before they even thought to do one...

about the prep so far it is going ok im almost done drinking the yucky stuff thank goodness
and so far thing are moving along very well.. i not really that nervous about the actual test because everyone says this is the worst part.. and hopefully i will be completely asleep.. thank you to everyone who replied to me.. this web site brings me so much comfort i only wish my mom could have talked to all of you.. it would have made her feel much better

    i love you all

    woke up
When I was awake the Doc spoke with me and my husband and told us he new what he saw , he did not even have to wait for results. It was cancer and he knew it. I am only 38, so thats when the roller coaster began. But hopefully you'll be fine. I am trying to get my sisters to get one and have not had any luck yet. It is nothing to play with.

    symptoms
did you have symptoms.. and is that why you had the colonscopy..

i figure if i go ahead and get this done and if there are some polyups then they can go ahead and remove them so nothing will come of them.. i dont want my kids to go through what i went through with my mother

i am 27 as and my mom would have been 50 on thanksgiving day.. and i know it can take 10 to 15 years for a polyup to grow in to a large tumor...

    Hi Heather,
    First, so sorry

    Hi Heather,

First, so sorry about your mom. It is such a devestating disease yet many people still do not take it seriously. I am so happy that you are doing the right thing though.
The test, I thought was a breeze. I would rather have a colonscopy than have a tooth pulled! (I had a bad experience with a simple tooth!) I woke up feeling good from my colonsopy but mine was clear. Like you said, if there might be some polyps, they are easily taken care of.
My hubby's wasn't so good and they told him that day.
You are young and getting check early as I hope my kids will do in a few years. Let us know how it goes. Thinking of you!

thank you for replying.. i think the worst is over for me it really wasnt so bad.. my friend just picked up my 2 year old and im just waiting now for time to leave... i promised my mom i would do this and i actually looking forward to it.. sometimes the unknown is scarier than knowing.. i fell confident that i will be just fine and im trying to keep a sense of humor about it.. laughter has helped me alot through all of this.. i am even going to video my trip to the dr. because i can be light hearted about it and maybe even convince my brother and sister to do the same.. i want to show people my journey.. i want to speak out and tell people they dont have to be embarrassed.. my mother was so embarrassed with her whole ordeal.. she gave me so much strenght i want to make her proud
