Hi All! I just want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart for all of the kind and encouraging words I've received since I (unfortunately!) joined this board a few weeks ago. My husband's surgery is scheduled for Nov. 9th. Both his surgeon and gastrointerologist said that chemo is a possibility. CT scans indicate that the cancer is isolated to one area of his colon, and do not indicate its presence in any lymph nodes or other organs (praying the post-surgery pathology says the same thing!). I know we'll meet with an oncologist in the hospital to discuss the reports and treatment options. In the meantime though, do any of you have any oncologist recommendations for the Baltimore area? Obviously, we'd love to stay close to home, but we're not that far from Philly and quite close to DC as well.

I want you to know that you all are in my prayers. Please keep my husband and I in mind over the coming weeks as well. We both just want to him to have the surgery and get it over with, so we can know what the next steps in this journey are going to be. We are both ready to kick this monster's butt!!! Cancer really messed with the wrong guy this time!

Love and prayers to all,
Tashina

    The
first one that comes to my mind that is close to you is John Hopkins as well as Georgetown, Maryland University. Other well know facilities include, MD Anderson, Mayo Clinic, Sloan-Kettering, WV University, UCLA, Stanford, etc.

I received my care at a local hospital within my residence by a life-saving Onc that came to the area 5 months before meeting me.

Make sure you are comfortable with the team and getting multiple opinions does not hurt, but keep in mind, you will need to wait and see what happens after surgery and what the path report reads.

I know it is hard to move forward with something you have no control over, but if you take one step at a time, you will be amazed just how far you really get.

    Hi Tashina!
    I'm currently

    Hi Tashina!

I'm currently being treated at Lombardi Cancer center at Georgetown University. I have been there for over a year now. I have stage 4 rectal cancer. I've had 3 surgeries there and the doctors and nurses are wonderful...especially the nurses! Interestingly enough though, I'm going up to Johns Hopkins next friday for a second opinion for treatment. I have scans tomorrow at Georgetown, so I will let you know how my appointment goes next week. Good luck with all of this...it's definitely overwhelming!
