The latest from Teena:

1. A week ago Saturday I got up and was going to go mee the "girls" (we're all 65) for breakfast. When I got ready to go out the door I decided that it was THE day I was going to "retire" my denim hat and start going out hatless and show the world my wonderful (very, very short peach fuzz hair). It felt sooooooo good ... and I did get quite a few compliments on my cute "do."

2. Friday went for my first mammogram since the 1/21 lumpectomy and it was good news ... bad news. The bad news was that the very first "smash" on the lumpectomy boob hurt like hell ... but the good news is ... everything looks GREAT! It is such a relief. I was trying my best not to think about it too much because I didn't want to be a basket case if they found "something" they needed to check further. But ... everything looks great. Whoopppee!

3. For about 3 weeks I've been switching my antidipressants from zoloft and wellbutrin to effexor ... so I could start on my tamoxifen. At first the switch was a little tough because I had headaches for a few days. Then instead of taking a whole effexor in the morning ... I started taking 1/2 in the morning and 1/2 at night. Headaches stopped.

4. So ... after holding my own on effexor for a couple of weeks I started the tamoxifen yesterday... and have my fingers crossed that I'll be one of those with no side effects. Otherwise ... I may be on this board more than anyone wants me to be ... a total nut case! Oh well ... we'll see ... just let me know if/when you think I need to have myself committed!

Well ... that's all the news I have from my part of the world ... other than I LOVE my hair. I may have to keep it this short!!!!!! Talk about low maintenance!

hugs.

    What a wonderful,

    Teena!

What a wonderful, uplifting, upbeat post! And whooooo hoooo I am sooo glad that you like, no love your short hair! I am sorry you had any bad news, but the other way around would have been way worse, huh? Mammo didn't hurt at all, Dr saw a mass...better to have an owie smash and an all clean and clear report any day! :-) Good luck on the Tamoxifen; I had no trouble taking Arimidex for the 5 years...I hope you sail through as well.

I love your attitude; I felt happy just reading! Thanks for the upbeat update!

    Hugs,

I am happy to read this, too!
Teena, what wonderful news! A clear mammogram, freedom of a short hair style you love, and successfully managing your anti-depressant medication. I am impressed! I am hoping that Tamoxifen will be easy for you. But if not, you can handle whatever happens, you know that. Love reading about all the good things happening in your life!

    Good for You!
Doing the happy dance! It is such a great feeling the first time you go out without a hat or scarf. The best feeling I have had was actually feeling the wind blowing my hair. Right now it sort of resembles (and I say sort of!!!) Jamie Lee Curtis's hair in her Activia ads. Hers is short, but cut stylish. I haven't let them do anything but trim a little off the back bottom. And of course, not looking anything like Jamie Lee Curtis (insert chuckles here)- well you get it. I am so glad for you, you deserve a great big group hug!!!

    Here comes a big "whooo
Here comes a big "whooo hoooo" from me to you. All news is great, and almost a relief. The short hair "unveiling" is the hardest thing to do, but such a relief once you take the first step. You will get to the point after your hair begins to grow out that you wish you had the short hair back....so much faster to get up and going in the mornings. As far as the mammogram and clear report, I couldn't be happier. Yes it does get uncomfortable, but I always tell myself to take a deep breath, and wait for the good news. Not a fun thing to do, but so much better than the not knowing what is going on in your body. Congratulations. Hugs to you.

Thanks for your sharing your good news, Teena!

It brought a smile to my face! :)

I'd love to see that cute 'do! Sooooo glad you got a good report from the mammo! My breast is still tender from the lumpectomy and I was wondering how much it would hurt for the next mammo ... but chen is right, It's so worth it when it comes back 'all clear!'

Congratulations and thanks again for posting your good news! :))

I am soooo happy for you. Don't worry, I may be committed with you! Think they have group rates? I will be back on my Tamoxifen in 2 weeks, so we can compare notes. Is Effexor one of the approved ones if you are taking Tamoxifen? My daughter colored my hair tonight and instantly mentioned how much thinning I am having (side effect of no estrogen) so I am thinking I may take her advice on a long Bob or something. But I have always worn my hair long. She said shorter hair gives you more bounce and actually can make you look younger. Hmmmm....food for thought! Pammy

So many great things all in
So many great things all in one. First, glad the mammo showed no problems but sorry for the ow. Second, glad you got the formula right for the effexor. Third, hoping you have no side effects with the tamoxifen but I love when you write and are online so don't let no side effects stop you. Fourth, but certainly not least, glad you meet the world with your new hair and that you are embracing it.
Go you and NED have a good long run, like forever.

    So, where's the pic??????
    Sounds like everything is GREAT!

I have this card I found that says it all with mammos:

A pic of a fridge slamming, a pic of symbols crashing, and a pic of a guy with fingers in the light socket...I always keep that in mind...LOL... MY mammo is being scheduled as we speak...

Thanks for the great news...and you GO, girl, with the 'new do'!!!!!

    Hugs, Kathi

    Ouch! I bet that hurt....
    Hi Teena,
Glad your mammo was great but I haven't had mine yet since my partial mastectomy. I was hoping they used a different method that didn't turn the crank quite so tight. My surgery was March 30 and my book is still tender. My onc told me mine would be in Jan so I'm hoping it will be more healed by then. They said 6 months from rads. How long after your surgery did they do the mammo?
