Surgery

My husband has Seminoma that has spread to his lymph nodes. They are doing chemo first then surgery to remove the left testicle. I was wondering, for those who have experienced this type of surgery, how your recovery was? How long did it take for you to recover and what should my husband expect going through it.

Tami2501, I had a testicular orchiectomy, where they remove the affected testicle, and was back at work about a week later. Your husband will be very sore around the incision, naturally, and b/c the incision goes through the deep lower abdominal wall, it's very hard to use stomach muscles to sit up. I found bed rest for the first few days followed by very light exercise (i.e., walking around a bit) to be the most effective and fastest way to recovery. Basically, he should follow doctor's orders to a T and he'll be ok. Is your husband also having the RPLND surgery to remove the lymph nodes in his abdomen? I had that, too, and can give him a heads up on what to expect there if it's relevant.

Thanks for the info, very helpful. No he will not be getting the RPLND. His cancer has already spread to the lymph nodes out side of his abdomen (to the neck and behind his lungs). Thanks for the information I really appreciate it.
