Yeah, major milestone. Mom made it through her first chemo. I am sure this is not a big deal for many vets of chemo, but this was a huge stepping stone for us. The pills (steroids) she took last night apparently made her a chatty cathy, and then the ativan they gave her made her loopy, but she did her 6 hours and is on the way home. I know the next few days are going to be big regarding side effects, but that only will tell me we are finally getting those damn C cells that I have come to hate.
QUestion: she was so bloated that she could not control her peeing. Apparently, it was leaking all over the place. Is this normal? We have her in depends and she doesn't care (thank God). I was just wondering what that was from. Does it mean the C has spread even more? Her spirits are very high (in more ways than one :) and I feel hope. Please say prayers and I will keep you all posted re: any side effects.

I can only say that maybe the increased urination was from the IV fluids they were giving your Mom - I assume they were giving her chemo through an IV? That's how I had mine, and I was actually going to the bathroom several times during chemo as well as after. And of course, wanting to keep up my fluid intake, I tried to drink a lot of water. So that contributed to it as well.

Let us know how your Mom is doing as she continues with her chemo. Till then. . .

    Luv - Hugs - Prayers!

I am with Monica. I drink lots of water during the infusion and get up and go to the bathroom 2-3 times in the 3-6 hours it takes. Stuff is probably pushing on her bladder. Saundra

    Hi Lisa,
Saundra and Monika are right, I also need to go to the bathroom a couple of times during chemo, it's all the IV fluids being dripped in.

I couldn't make it to the bathroom a couple of times while I was home, no biggie, just mopped things up and took a shower.

Your Mom amazes me, she's quite a feisty lady and a fighter!
She's determined to fight this cancer and win no matter what she has to adjust to. Good for her..

If the steroids kept her up the night before chemo, have her tell the doctor, he may just give her pre meds before they start her chemo.
That is what my oncologist does, and he prescribed a sleeping pill for the night after my AM chemo.I get 5 solid hours, and i can go to the bathroom without a problem if I need to during the night.

You're a wonderful daughter, hang in there and tell Mom to do the same!
