    Hi Kat,
    sorry you feel sick.

    Hi Kat,
sorry you feel sick. I was on adriamycin and cytoxin but neither were shots. One was a bag that dripped into the IV and the other they called a "push". It was in a large syring and they pushed it into the tube connected to the IV and it only took a few minutes to do. Each time I went eas an all day event. I had those 2 drugs on the same day and Neulasta shot the next day. I did feel sick on those drugs and got worse by the 3rd day and then better. The first time I had them I threw up and so the next time they added a medication for me to take. I took Zofran and Emend for the naseau. Adding the Emend did help. I did not throw up again.

Also they told me to drink a ton of fluid. They had me come in for IV fluid the day after treatment because I wasn't able to drink enough to keep hydrated. They stressed how important fluids were to wash out the chemo quickly.

Talk to them and tell them how you feel and see what they can do. THe nurses where I went couldn't do enough to try to keep me feeling good.

    Hope you feel better soon,
    Kim

I'm so sorry you feel bad
I'm so sorry you feel bad Kat.Did you get anti nausea drugs in the IV before the chemo drugs? Are you getting Emend? Zofran? to take at home? I guess I've been lucky so far. Just tired on the 3rd/4th day ...maybe a little diarea. If you don't feel better tomorrow call the Doc. They want to know if you're having a rough time and they might be able to give you something to help.

    Kat11,

I'm on my second day of the first round of A/C chemo and I feel like ****. I feel like a mack truck has hit me. Slept all day yesterday and most of today. Nausea has been under control thank goodness. I got 2 meds before chemo, cant remember names, but I also had Emend. Still don't feel like eating or drinking, but trying to do the best that I can. Let's keep our chins up and hopefully this will all pass.

Take your meds hon and go back to bed. You'll start feeling some relief soon and by the time you go in for your 2nd shot you'll be really good. Try to drink as much water as you can, I know it's hard..........feel bad for you. Hugs

I am sorry about how you are feeling. I was there one year ago and I remember how I felt. A friend sent meditation tapes for chemo, and they along with ativan helped me to fall asleep. I think the Neulasta shot is pretty important. Pharmaceuticals, prayer, love and compassion from friends and family, meditation and sleep definitely pulled me through. I would get the C/A on Wednesday, work on Thursday and Friday. Was down for the count on Saturday and Sunday and start feeling better on Monday. By Tuesday I was fine until the next round. It doesn't go on forever. You can do it. Much love sent your way, Lynn

So sorry this hit you so hard, can't say much to make you feel better, except that the first one usually is the worst, so it should be better from now on.
Hope you both feel better soon!

I took the emend and zofran.
I took the emend and zofran. I am so very tired I can hardly stay awake. I am up every hour, first I am so hot I can't stand it then so cold I have to cover up, and then we repeat it all. Today I still feel like its the flu. I have to feel better, tomorrow is the Chemo party my daughter in Law is giving me. I can't push the fluids right now, nor can I eat anything but crackers. Will this happen to sherry and I after every treatment ?

    I was sick after every
I was sick after every treatment but everyone is different. The nurses I had couldn't stress enough to keep up with fluids. It was hard for me too. Ask if they can set you up to get IV fluids when you go on for the Neulasta shot next time. They did for me because they knew I was not drinking enough. Remember ice cream, jello and Italian Ice, popsicles are all considered liquids. Please try something. I usually felt myself by day 7 and had a good week and then back for more chemo.

Also, if you are very hot and then cold check your temperature. THis happens to me when I have a fever. I was told any temp over 100.5 to call doctor.

Let me know how you do,

    While on chemo
I remember those days, all too well. Here's a couple of suggestions:
    1) While at chemo treatments drink as much iced water as you can, because you don't want to dehydrate. When I dehydrated I was at a greater risk for blood clots (due to other med'l conditions) and I wanted NOTHING to delay my treatments. Or suck on ice-this helps with control or avoid mouth sores, too.

    2) I found that popsicles really helped with the fluid intake. You can make your own (with a watered down juice), or get the natural ones (Edy's or Breyer's) at the grocers. If you've had kids, you probably remember those flu days when you pushed pediolyte (sp?), well, this is the same idea (except it tastes better than pediolyte).

I'm so sorry that you are sick. The nausea tended to hit me a day or two later, too. Since I knew this would happen, I pushed the fluids as much as I could tolerate before it hit.

I also spent a lot of time in bed, and to avoid getting up and risking the chance of vomiting and losing all of hard work of taking in fluids, I kept a buzzer by my bed to call for help as needed (a vibrating one so my hubby could feel it and come running. I also kept a bell by my bed to call my daugther. It was a great system and, depending on the need, they knew who I needed. BC survivors must be creative :).

Finally, I kept the window cracked (even though it was cold outside) for fresh air. It meant more covers, but the fresh air helped with the nausea.

It's a tough road, but you'll make it.

    Kat, sorry that you are
Kat, sorry that you are feeling so yucky. You should begin to feel better in the next day or so. Usually by day 4 I was starting to feel less peekid. I would sometimes get ome delayed yuckiness about 5 days or so later but not as bad as the first few days. Try eating applesauce and bannanas. Also gatorade helded me. Somehow water tasted funny to me. Are you having AC treatments now? I will be thinking of you. Eil

Now you know what it's like...
....the next ones will probably be better. Of course, everyone is different. For me, knowing what to expect helped me to manage all of the side effects. When you see your onc, before your next treatment, let him or her know your SEs. If zofran doesn't work, there are other meds - Ativan worked for me, but it did make me sleep. My family just got used to my chemo reaction schedule. (No mom available Friday pm., Sat., or Sun.)

I hope with all my heart that today is a better day for you. Surely if you are still feeling yucky, your daughter-in-law will understand. Best wishes on a speedy recovery for both you and Sherry. Love, Lynn
