I am sorry but I cannot recall who is from Big Fork, my brother just bought a PUD there (similar to duplex) and I was wondering what Big Fork is like. All I know is that he is 5 minutes from Flat Head lake and he is quite excited. He will be using it as a summer home and a winter retreat. Just curious about the town. Thanks!

Debi, I lived 12 miles outside of Polson on Melita Island Lane near Melita Island for a while. My first teaching job was in Ronan and my oldest daughter was born at St. Joseph's hospital in Polson. My other two children were born in Kalispell. Big Fork is so beautiful. I live in Idaho now, but I left a bit of my heart all along Highway 93. Lynn

Hi Debi, thanks for the info on Big Fork. I don't have the name of the condo yet, however he is less than 5 miles from the lake as well so you may be neighbors!

    Love ya 2,

    Hi Lynn,
My daughter spends a week at Camp Marshall every summer, right across from Melita Island. What an incredibly beautiful spot!
Where are you in Idaho now? It's not exactly an "ugly" place either! But any time you want to come visit, let me know. Seriously...bc sisters are always welcome :-)

    Come visit!!!!
Taleena, you are always welcome to come visit. It is beautiful here, although the winters can be rather dark and gloomy. But to me it's always beautiful, regardless.

We moved here from Colorado in 2001. Although I grew up in NYC, I always hated the city and longed to live in "the country." At 15 I went to work on a dude ranch in Allenspark, Colorado, fell in love with the area, went back east for my junior year at H.S., applied early admissions to Univerity of Colorado, got accepted, moved to Boulder, and never looked back.

But between 1972 and 2001, Colorado changed drastically, and got so crowded over the years that it wasn't that "Rocky Mountain High," anymore. When we went to check out Montana, it was a lot like Colorado used to be.

To be honest, I still miss the Colorado of the past, and all my friends there (and my daughter and her family!!!!), but my husband and younger daughter wouldn't even consider moving back. So, here I am.

And truly, you are welcome here ANY time!!

(What is that adorable puppy's name???)

    Love you,
    Debi

    Some friends
managed Camp Marshall when I lived on Melita Island Lane. All of the families on our road co-owned the dock next to Camp Marshall. I just now remember the kids getting that dock itch in late summer! If you look up the hill from the corner where you turn on to Melita Island Road you can see our little house.

Now those friends (John and Connie) live up the road a few miles in a home they built themselves. Connie says that all that is left of my garden is one peony bush. So sad. (John and Connie were present at my daughter Kathryn's birth and Connie had her first baby a month after my second daughter was born.)Connie, Kathryn and I spent many happy hours walking (and getting lost on) the old logging roads back behind our little yellow house. We called them fairy tale roads and they had names like Porcupine Trail (where we once scared a porcupine mid-day). I think the name of the road is Wilderness Valley now. Another family of good friends lives a little higher up the hill.

Members of both families drove together to my daughter's wedding reception this July 3. They arrived late Friday afternoon and had to leave the next morning, because two of the girls work at a camp near Paradise (Quinn's?) Hot Springs and had to be back Saturday afternoon! I hadn't seen them in so long that I spent most of the reception time visiting with them.

It was such a great visit and my husband and I have talked about taking our family to a Glacier vacation - they haven't been there for about 12 years! If we decide to make our way up 93, I'm sure we'll hop over to Big Fork...so maybe we will meet! My husband works for the Forest Service and worked in the Swan Valley before we met. He still has friends on your side of the Lake. We lived on that side of the Lake at Pine Glen when we first came to Montana. There used to be a cherry orchard there, before the big freeze. Earlier my husband worked at Pine Glen when there was still salmon in the lake!

I teach in McCall which is a cross between Polson and Whitefish. It is on Payette Lake and there is a ski hill (Brundage) close by. I live in a valley outside of a small town right out of Andy Griffith. The forest starts at the top of our property. We have an irrigation ditch that gravity feeds our lower acres and pasture and it is absolutely gorgeous right now because we've had so much rain, as well. OHHHH, but it is hot and brown down here in July, August and September. Then it is beautiful again. We get tons of snow and the best powder. Where I live is 45 minutes from Brundage. My husband is on the ski patrol, so we all have season passes.

It was fun writing this. Thanks for your comment that inspired me to relive some very happy memories. Lynn

My sister lives in Montana. It is so beautiful there. I would love to live there, except, in the winter. They have really bad winters where she is at. But, the people of Montana are amazing. I have never met nicer, more down to earth people in my life. They would literally give a stranger the shirt off of their back. A great place to raise kids too. Great education, great schools!

Maybe, we should have a bc CSN reunion in Montana? lol

Did your husband ever know a guy named Bill Pederson?? He retired quite awhile ago from the USFS, but he's pretty well-known around here. My husband goes elk hunting with him and his cronies every fall.

It was great to hear about all your memories of Melita Island. Thanks for sharing them!!

Hope to meet you one of these days! I loved looking at the pictures on your expressions page.

I'm sure we could manage to figure out logistics if we really wanted to go for something like that! There are so many women on here that I'd love to meet, and you all would be a good start.
