The TrilogyTM System linear accelerator is the latest technology available in radiation treatment for cancer.
Trilogy combines the capabilities of other external beam radiation technologies -- including Cyberknife, Tomotherapy, and Novalis -- all in one state-of-the-art machine.
The University of Maryland Marlene and Stewart Greenebaum Cancer Center's (UMGCC) Department of Radiation Oncology was the first academic medical center in the region to introduce the fully-integrated TrilogyTM System.
Trilogy is allowing UMGCC radiation oncologists to deliver higher doses of radiation to tumors in shorter time, while minimizing the damage to surrounding normal tissues and organs. That means our doctors can offer patients the most appropriate treatment modality for treating their particular form of cancer, whether in the body or the brain.
The TrilogyTM System can deliver radiotherapy doses at least 60 percent faster than conventional technologies. This shortens the length of time patients need to spend undergoing treatment. In addition, the radiation beam is highly precise, allowing clinicians to deliver treatments with unprecedented accuracy.
With Trilogy, our doctors have the option to treat small lesions using stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS), which is delivered in a single treatment, or stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT), which is delivered over a period of a few days.
Trilogy can also be used for traditional radiation therapy, which is delivered in daily small doses over a period of weeks.
I hope this help ,is very important during and after treatment know that some organs will not be affected ,and some pt salivaries glands or voice will not be change.
