I thought you'd all get a kick out of this fundraiser for "cancers below the waist" :) It makes me smile and although I can't run or walk the route, I am going to see how I can get involved this year.

The Underwear Affair 09 Vancouver - Uncover the Cure

Those crazy Canadians! What will they think of next??? :) This is a 5K and 10K walk/run to raise funds (and awareness) for the cancers that hit below the waist. People are ENCOURAGED to participate in their underwear! The wording throughout the website is hilarious... Get out and EXPOSE the cause! The crazier the underwear get up, the better LOL! Check out some of the photos from the 2008 event.

Sounds like a lot of fun, plus a worthy cause :)

Hugggggs,

Cheryl

    LOL!
That's what I thought too, Gail! What a hoot that an organization can make it FUN and encourage crazy, fun behaviour, but at the same time bring out the awareness that there are a lot of people suffering from types of cancer that are still a bit taboo to talk about. And because of that, these same cancers don't get the recognition or funding for research because people are embarrassed to talk about them (or others are embarrassed to listen to someone talking about them). That seems to just be human nature.

But, by making it a fun event and focusing on "underwear", it let's people know that the below the waist cancers can affect anyone. Ok, women can't get prostate cancer and men can't get cervical cancer, but we all can get colorectal cancer no matter what our gender. And all these cancers need funding for research and cures.

I've sent in my registration to volunteer the day of the race (July 11). Hahaha... that's going to be a busy day!!! The race will be in the morning and afternoon, and then I'll be dashing off to the theatre for the first Preview performance of Thoroughly Modern Millie that night :)

I love summer!! Busy, busy, busy!! :)

    Huggggggs,

    Cheryl
