Hello again ... I finally found you again ! guess I didn't do a very good job of bookmarking this page !

Well, I had Radical Mastectomy .. left side *and I'm right handed, in case the survey is ongoing ! * with sentinal node removed ... I thought the surg was going to biopsy it & not remove it unless there were CA cells there. It was clear, but it was removed anyway. Must ask about that at next visit.

I have a JP drain ... still draining about 40 ml / 24 hrs ... surg says she wants 10 ml's or less / 24 hrs ... its' slowling down, slowly.

I had a scare w/ a fever, touch of asthma, went in for a chest X-ray ... that was clean too, but I really wanted to r/o pneumonia ! Still coughing and runny nose ... most likely allergies. I live in Sacramento and allergy rules this time of year.

I'm going to volunteer * w/ my daughter* at the Komen Race for the Cure next week... just in registration area so it won't be too tiring.

I sleep alot ... figure that's the recovery/healing part. eating & drinking fine ...
passing the time listening to stories on tape & CD ... : )

    Aren't the drains awful--but they'll come out and you'll forget about them.

    I did the Komen walk at 4 weeks after my bilateral mastectomy--just the 1K family walk--and I sure was tuckered out afterwards.

    I'm glad that your surgery is over and behind you and that you are on the road to recovery.

    I agree, those darn drains are a pain...mine got clogged, but they will soon be out. And you will feel much better with them gone.

    I have 2 young grandkids! Nothing better in the world!!

    I joined less than 2 weeks ago, so we might not have "met" until now. Considering that you're 10 days out from your surgery, you seem to be doing pretty well - even if it doesn't feel that way to you. Although my surgery was lumpectomy - I also had to deal with the dreaded drain because my underarm was cut, too, for additional lymph nodes removal. Be patient, because there's not much else you can do until it's done.

    So sorry about your complications; but, am glad the tests confirmed allergies & not anything else. You're dealing with more than enough as it is, for sure. Sleep is wonderful medicine. The body does the most healing while we sleep, while we're at rest. We lead such busy lives - and you have 7 grandchildren, WOW!, that's wonderful! - sometimes I think we resist the urge to sleep, even when we feel tired. Just keep napping!

    Good for you, for volunteering for the Komen Race - that is wonderful! Those types of events couldn't possibly occur if folks didn't volunteer to work them. So, what you - and your daughter - will do is just as important & beneficial as what the participants (walkers/runners) do. When I was first diagnosed (almost 6 years ago), I made a promise that if given a chance at life - I'd work to help others facing BC. For the last five years, I've been a Team Leader for the ACS "Making Strides Against Breast Cancer" walk for awareness & fund-raising. This happens each October (National Breast Cancer Awareness Month). I walk each year with my little Team of family & friends, and not always the same group. I will do so as long as I physically am able, which - of course - I hope will be for a long, long time! So, again - good for you, Karen! You make ALL of us proud!

    I send you my sincere best wishes for continued recovery, without further complications. And heartfelt hopes for cancer-free health.

    What a wonderful number -7- grandchildren! You are definitely blessed. It sounds like you are doing great in spite of your allergies. I hope you continue to heal quickly. Look at you, already volunteering. You go girl!
