Hi Jackie: I also had the same problem and what I did was shave it off with an electric razor and it felt sooo much better after wards. My head still hurt when I wore my wig. I think Mimi posted that the cotton cap helped. I honestly don't know, I just hated the whole thing and I wore either baseball caps when I was out or nothing. My kids didn't mind (they are both teens and I know it was difficult for them) so most of the time I went without anything. My daughter said I looked like Sinead O'Connor and Demi Moore when she went bald so I didn't care. Just do what's comfortable for you. Hugs, Lili0 -

I shaved mine with a razor, not electric, and it seems that some of it is trying to grow back. I guess the follicles all haven't died yet. Anyway , Friday after treatment I went to a local wig store, who was awesome, and they have something called a "comfy grip" and it is made with natural silicone that goes around your head to help hold your wig off of your head and without slipping. It feels good. I didn't get one yet but she told me all about it and let me feel of it. If you want to look at one you can go to "www.headcovers.com" and look under wig accessories and it is there. I also bought some scarves off of that sight and I just love their selection , and she is a survivor also, It means so much more to know that to me now than ever before. It kinda puts things in priority. I wish you well , keep us posted.

Same Wig Problem
Thank y'all for the advice on the cotton or wig cap. I want to try to wear my wig along with caps, too. Will check for the caps Jackie and Michelle mentioned. I sure didn't expect my head to feel so uncomfortable with stubble--now I understand why men keep their heads shiny smooth!0 -

Did you wear a wig? I am also wondering do the stubbles actually grow? My son said "I think your hair is growing back!"although i know this is probably not possible, I wondered if i would soon look like a porcipine? Some one said pulling them off with duct tape felt good but i'm too chicken to try this without some input?

Yes, I got a wig. We discovered that I had a Big 'Ol Noggin, though! (I'll see if I can find my journal/blog entry on that) Anyway, I loved my wig for one reason. It was straight hair. I've always had curly hair and it was fun to have straight hair for a change. But, I only wore it to church and special occasions. About 4-6 hours was my limit for wearing it at one time. My head would get hot and itchy! Otherwise, I went around with a knitted hat to the store (it was winter, so that fit in well) or just bald at home. In the spring/summer I put my wig away and just started wearing bandanas or nothing at all. I even went bald to a homeschool convention where there were thousands of people all around. It was certainly a challenge in courage. I think to most I looked really brave, but really I felt like the cowardly lion in the Wizard of Oz.
And yes, the stubbles that don't let go do keep growing. The electric shaver without the guard (or on the lowest setting) helped to keep the porcupine look at bay. I'd never heard of the duct tape procedure at the time I was bald. Not sure I would have tried it myself, though it sounds like it works....I too, would have been too chicken!0 -

I got my wigs and the stocking caps of ebay for a rediculously low price and they got me through, 2 wigs, 2 bank-robber type caps. hey I even slept in them 'cos I looked so horrible bald, I scared myself half to death every time I passed a mirror!

I didn't have trouble
I didn't have trouble keeping my wig on immediately after my hair was shaved off, but now that my hair has been growing for a couple of months the wig doesn't want to stay. Oh happy day when the wig comes off for good! An electric shaver was used so there were some stubbles. My head itched but I didn't have a problem otherwise. Did you try the wig without the wig cap? That's how mine has been worn througout the last four months.0 -
Never could wear a wig
I tried on lots of wigs, but none of them worked for me. I ended up wearing scarves and hats and sometimes going bald at home. I started being showered with the coolest hats and most beautiful scarves ever! Way more comfortable than a wig. I even wore a biker style bandanna with skull and crossbones when I was feeling a little rowdy. Lynn0 -

Hair Stubbles
Just joined today and haven't read far enough to know if someone has suggested this. But. I too had my hair buzzed and problems with stubbles. I hated my wig which could have accounted for some of my inability to tolerate it. Then my scalp began itching like crazy. Every time I scratched, stubbles would come out. Then I couldn't scratch cause my scalp was sore. One day, in desperation, I grabbed the adhesive lint remover roller and rolled it all over my head. WOW! Not only did it gently take care of the itch, but it pulled out those stubbles nice as can be. I used it every day for a while. Then one day, I wasn't losing any more stubbles and could stop.
The next thing I did was this. My husband and I went into one of those wig stores that sells 'em real cheap. I said he should live out his fantasy and bring me every wig he'd like to see me in. Oh!! The things he brought for me to try on. It was our first belly laughs since this journey began. I ended up with three wigs--a short, spiky, copper color; a burgundy sophisticated looking thing; and a straight, flat, long haired brunette one. All his choices, all fun, all with good memories of that day. And I enjoy wearing each one. I'll keep them to use even when my hair grows back for those bad hair days. But the first one I got--still hate it and am donating it.0 -

I bought a wig but never wore it. Left it sitting on the dresser. It was a comfort to know I had it incase I needed it (I was thinking recurrence). It reminds me of a story I read as a kid called Mama's Bank Account. It was about a mother who told her kids she had a bank account so they wouldn't feel stress. Everytime she would need money for something the kids would tell her to use the bank account money. The mother always told them she thought they could handle it in other ways and save the bank account money for true emergencies. It wasn't till the end of the book that you find she didn't really have a bank account at all. I think about that sometimes. I finally found I didn't need the wig and gave it to Goodwill. I didn't want to let the fear of recurrence run my life. Plus I didn't want to dust the thing. Maybe I should have really shown it and used it as the duster!0 -

When I was fitted for my "new hair" they gave me a little nylon thingy...LOL looks like a PED but for your head not your foot...
It has gotten me through so far.

Hair loss
After my hair fell out and I finished shaving it off, I collected all the shampoos and conditioners that were in the house to give away. I only left the one my husband liked, well he ran out this weekend and could not find anything to shampoo his hair with lol.
Also under the wigs I have now, I bought cotton wig liners, I turn them inside out so the seams are facing out. They are much more comfortable that way.0
