Four Years Ago...

I was looking at the date this morning and wondering why it felt like it should be important. I started thinking about friends and relatives and wondering if I missed a birthday... I was sitting here at 12:40 and it finally dawned on me that four years ago today I was in the hospital having a colon resection that would remove the cancer that had invaded my body uninvited.

Yes, I guess time has a way of making things easier... and harder sometimes as well. I just had blood work and CT recently and they I am still NED, yet it feels sometimes that it is only a matter of time. Then, I totally forget an important date like this!

I just celebrated my 31st birthday on Oct. 4. On October 4, 2004, I was having a colonoscopy because of bleeding. I knew finding out what was wrong with me was more important than a birthday... and I was right. I received the devastating news on October 5, 2004. I never actually thought I would hear the words, "You have cancer". I really didn't think I was going to hear those words just after having a baby and being so young. How can something feel like it was so long ago and yet feel like it was only yesterday? I'm just thrilled to think that four years ago I never thought I would see another birthday and I have since celebrated three more, post cancer.

Life goes on. It's just that sometimes you have to take it one day at a time.

Patricia - Proud to be a Four Year Survivor!

Happy Birthday, Happy NED! I just received my next to last chemo round with 1 more to go. I too wonder what the future holds. I have been feeling really good and It feels too good to be true that the treatments will be over and I can get back to my "new" old life. Enjoy today, tomorrow and many many more todays and tomorrows. Happy naked dance.

    Congrats!
Patricia, that is really good news! My birthday is August 31st and I had my colonoscopy on 08/12/04, resection on 08/25/04 and returned home on 08/30/04. I woke up very early on the 31st freaking out from the percocet... happy birthday to me! And I know what you mean, i never thought i would see my 45th birthday, then my oldest daughter got married and just gave me my first grand daughter! I NEVER thought so much of life was yet to come! You are so young and so strong, and so much to live for! Happy NED and continued peace. God be with you.

So good to read your post of
So good to read your post of four years. And at thirty one no less. I was thirty three and this week three years ago I finished my chemo. I was stage four, but am NED and I wouldn't have believed a soul that their would be days when you can soar and feel free after an experience like that. I'm glad people kept telling me anyway. I'm glad you shared your story. Thanks.

    Happy Birthday from Colorado
    Happy Birthday Patricia-
glad to hear all is well. I know you are no longer in Colorado, but I do remember how nice it was to talk with you about my mom, RMCC, Dr. Kohn. You were such a great help to us. Wishing you many more HAPPY BIRTHDAYS!!!
P.S. Maybe it is good that you are not in Colorado anymore....where we live the snow is about to start flying. This weekend is supposed to be a BIG one! Yikes, way to early for me.
