Hi, Valerie here, stage 3 colon cancer: in treatment right now but can't take the grey in my hair!! Can anyone suggest a rinse that I can use that is not too harsh. I was told that I could not use anything right now, but I want to try something.

Thanks.
God bless you all

My mom is stage iv and i take her to a salon and get her hair done, colored, and all every 4-6 weeks (and have been doing so for 7-8 months). The first time I did her hair with clairol with no problems. Call the salon ahead of time and ask them to use less harsh chemical dye. If they don't have it, go somewhere else. However, when I approached her onc, he said to go ahead and get her hair done. She was/is on folfox + avastin, and has not had a problem with coloring her hair at all. Well, i take that back when her hair started coming back in (she lost a lot after surgery, and from being on chemo) it came back in coal black!! We're a blond, light brown hair colored family....you should have seen the look on her face to now be a very dark brunette.

Hi Valerie, during my chemo treatment I did color my hair as usual, I did hear about some people saying that you are not supose to do it, but my oncologist never told me anything about it and I assumed if it was something dangerous it would be his responsability to let me know, so I didn't bother to ask, maybe I was afraid of an answer that I was not going to like, anyway for me it was important to try to look the best I could especially during that time.

Thank you ladies. I will go ahead and do my hair. That is important for me right now. That's funny going from blondes/light browns to coal black. You made my day with that one.

    God bless you guys!!!

I am a highlighted "natural blonde" they use peroxide for some of highlights - about as harsh as it gets. I checked when I started chemo, they said it was OK, I never had any trouble.

The comments I remember reading regarding hair color and chemo wasn't that it was unhealthy for us, just might tend to make the newly grown out, fragile new hair fall out again if dyed. Sounds to me it's like a lot of everything else, works for some, might not work for others.
