This was supposed to be a time FOR CELEBRATION!!, my last chemo session last week. But so far it has been the worst, no strength for anything. Finally I was feeling better yesterday, went for the count blood check, and all the values are up to normal, but then went back to home and what started very light after lunch has developed in a full allergic reaction, with huge hives all over. I passed the night hoping it was going to clear, but this morning 7.30 I was in the oncologist office. They told me that sometimes after all these treatments the body is not working so good, then we can develop this allergies all of a sudden. They gave me Benadryl, and see how it goes. It seems there's no specific food, anything I eat it spreads wider.
Really anxious now, don't know what to expect. Anyone has had this experiencie before, having an allergic reaction after one week of the chemo treatment? Thank you for any input.

  • Sylva, a few YEARS after I finished chemo I discovered I was allergic to iodine, which is in most chemo drugs. So, that explained the severe reactions I had after each treatment. Not rash, just extreme nausea and vomiting to the point onco gave me ativan sufficient to basically knock me out for a few days.
Anyway, after the iodine discovery they told me NEVER to let anyone inject me with anything containing iodine again. So if I ever have to go back on chemo (God forbid) they are gonna hafta come up with something I can tolerate.
Iodine might not be your problem at all, but you might want to ask for tests to be sure.
