Just got the preliminary report of my pet scan from my oncologist. No significant growth from the previous pet scan of oct 2006. Nothing shrunk either which is discouraging. I have a < 1/4th inch tumor on my liver and two in my chest wall and some infected small lymph nodes. I just finished 9 rounds of topopecan/carplatin. Has anyone had their tumors go away without surgery? How long has anyone survived with tumors? This is my first reoccurance. My onc was pleased with the results and said the chemo was working, but I would like complete remission. Does this happen.

I had three 2.5+ cm tumors in my liver when diagnosed originally. They were originally declared "inoperatable". After 4 doses of taxol and carboplatin they shrunk to less than half that size and a oncology surgeon in Dallas performed a "radio frequency ablation" on them during my debulkment surgery. He reported that he got all of them after the surgery. e-mail me if you want his name. You can read about RFA by googling. I was always told the liver was the big concern so was happy to see them go. I don't know if they can do RFA on other than the liver or not. I will pray for your complete tumor destruction. Will you have more chemo to shrink them some more?

Dear Collin, Stable disease is a good sign, it means the chemo has worked ~ as the tumor hasn't grown or spread. I always try to look at this as positive, maybe not what I would like to hear but better than the alternative.

I have had some tumors go away without surgery or at least shrink and it happened after getting many different chemos and being told I was coming to the time when I would be in and out of the hospital and to what level I wanted to be kept alive. That is almost 2 years ago and I have less cancer now than I did then.

I have lived with cancer in my body and on chemo for almost 5 years.

I guess what I am trying to say is don't be discouraged, and when you are come here and we'll all have a good soul cleansing cry with you.

    Hugs N Prayers Bonnie
