Hi! It's Back! I am the one with a vary rare cell type of OC. I might as well be rare about something else also. I was told that 95% of the time OC will come back in the abdomin or pelvic. Well, I have Ovarian Cancer scattered through out my lungs but mainly in the upper portions. A couple of the tumors are golfball size. Cancer is not showing up any place else. (Yet?) I started Carboplatin and Taxol this past Monday. I had a good response with it before so hopefully it will work again. I have been in a lot more pain from the chemo this time. Thank Heavens for pain pills. I have labs tomorrow but my RBC were 14.2 last week so I should have plenty left,

My prayers are with you all. Take care! Paula

Hi Paula, In December 2006 I commenced for the second time (first time was 2002) treatment with Carboplatin and Taxol. I had a very good response. My CA125
went from 896 to 168. Prior to this I had no response from gemzar and topetecan. This is a very good regimen. This time while having the chemo I would have an allergic reaction but it would only last for ten minutes. I think the allergic reaction was psychological because with one of the treatments I just walked into the unit and they had not hooked me up and I started to experience the allergic reaction. My prays are with you. Irene

I'm sorry you're dealing with this again. I also had carbo/taxol for my first episode AND recurrance, and had good results both times. The second time I did develop an allergy to Taxol so they put me on Taxotere instead.
Sending my hugs and prayers for a good response to treatments, and that the pain won't be too unbearable and will be responsive to meds. Are you talking about neuropathy pain?
    Keep in touch.
    (((HUGS)))

So sorry, Paula that you have to have more treatment. Taxol/Carbo works good with me and I pray you have swift results this time and it knocks out those lung spots. I had a lot of pain with my last treatment but hardly any with the one I had last Thurs. Hard to figure. Best to take it one at a time. ((Hugs)) Saundra

I'm so sorry for your news, Paula and I'll be saying prayers for you.I was only treated with Carbo/taxol 1 x. For the other two recurrences I had Doxil and Gemzar. I do however remember the pain of carbo taxol, it is one of my worse memories!!!! Just recently they did a CT scan of my lungs (never been done before) because of the crisis I was in with Gemzar, and they saw 4 nodules on my left lung as well as a enlarged lymph node around my sternum....so you migt have some company, for rarity..me!!!! Right now I'm on a chemo vacation, I do know my ca-125 has gone from 14 May 30th to 38.8 July 16....so somethings brewin in me. Stay close to us and we will all help you through..we all love and care so much..you rest now and remember we will all be praying for you....((((hugz))))..Joanne

    Dear Paula,

I am another rarity. I have 3 tumors in my pluera (the lining outside the lungs--between the lungs and the chest wall). I was also told this was very rare. My tumors are less than an inch. I am on carboplatin and topotecan. After 8 cycles I was still stable but no shrinkage. I am starting a 9th cycle and after cycle 10 will do another ct scan and blood tests and will go from there.

Hugs and lots of prayers going your way. Hopefully they will soon find something more effective for this beast!

Joanne, When I read your post, I was afraid that we could be going through some of the same things. I hope not. I have been coughing or feeling winded for almost two years. I was diagnosed with Chemio Induced COPD and bronchiectasis. They did not think it was a recurrance. They were able to get the coughing stopped and I can breath so much better. These tumors came up so fast. The DRS were shocked but chemo works better on fast growing cells. I have not given up. Best of Luck! Paula

Irene, Monika, Bonnie, Sandra and MM Thank You all for your responses!!!
MM, this is my first recurrance. I was on carboplatin/taxol for 8 treatments after diagnoses. My last Chemo was May 25,2005. I just wish that I had felt better during my break. I at least had a longer break than most, and I am very thankful for that.
Sandra, I've read that you are going to Baylor. I have a 1st cousin that goes there and she is a six year survivor. I live close to Texarkana,TX.

My prayers are with all of you!!!! Paula

Paula, I had my surgery at Baylor. My chemo is given with Texas Oncology here in Midland where I live and the surgeons come here for my check-ups. I have an oncologist here too. Saundra

Paula, I am so sorry. Dang this disease! You are in my thoughts and prayers.
I am on Doxil, I had a terrible break out the first time so now I have a half does every two weeks. It is much better. I could not stand the carbo/taxol again. I still have neuropathy.
Well I pray things go well for you! Jan

Jan, The carbo/taxol that I received so far was a lot rougher. I hurt everywhere the week after. I still hurt some but it has really let up. Most inportant my blood counts are still good for now. I hope they stay that way because I'm afraid of Doxil. Everyone seems to have a bad rash. If it itches, I would be a goner. I remember that your diagnoses was almost a year to the date before mine. Wishing you the best. Paula

    Dear Paula,
This is really rotten news but I see you are very strong and have risen to the challenge.
I had carbo/taxotere for first recurrence and it was way easier on the neuropathy and not so bone/achey either. It only lasted 8 mos. but I didn't know then how great 8 mos remission can be. I may ask for it again one day. Also, because your cancer is so unusual, perhaps it will take this combo to knock it out. We'll be sending up prayers to that effect. I'm glad you have some relief with pain pills...be sure to stay caught up with laxatives, especially around chemo time, or the effects can be awful. I've gone from percocet to oxycontin and back again. Got major nausea from the continuous release and couldn't do anything all day. Everyone in the doc's office sez take pain pills as part of the therapy. They have a good point, because quality of life is the biggie here.
Sending you hugs and best wishes for strength and healthy days ahead. Keep up the good attitude!
