MY HUSBAND IS RETIRED. I AM JUST HOPING THAT YOU MIGHT BE ABLE TO HELP ME FIND THE RIGHT CONTACT PERSON. WE LIVE IN KODIAK ALASKA, AND THERE IS NO ARMY POST HERE, ONLY A COAST GUARD BASE. MY HUSBAND WAS MEDICALLY RETIRED FROM THE ARMY IN JANUARY OF 07, AFTER HIS 6 YEARS ACTIVE DUTY, AND HE FINALLY CAME HOME THAT SAME MONTH AFTER BEING GONE FOR 2 YRS. ONE YEAR IN AFGHANISTAN, AND THE OTHER YEAR RECEIVING TREATMENT AT MADIGAN, FT. LEWIS IN WASHINGTON. BEFORE HE WENT TO AFGHANISTAN, HE WAS STATIONED AT RICHARDSON, THEN WHEN HE RETURNED, HE WAS ATTACHED TO LEWIS, THEN TRANSFERRED TO FT. WAINWRIGHT, FROM WHERE HE WAS DISCHARGED. DURING ALL OF HIS MOVING, HE WAS GIVEN MANY BRIEFINGS ABOUT MEDICAL RETIREMENT, MEDICAL BOARD ETC. A LOT OF WHICH HE DID NOT UNDERSTAND. SINCE HIS CHEMOTHERAPY, HE HAS A HARD TIME REMEMBERING, AND SOMETIMES CONCENTRATING. I WAS NOT ABLE TO BE WITH HIM THROUGH HIS TREATMENT, AS I WAS STAYING AT HOME WITH THE THREE CHILDREN WE HAVE AND TO KEEP MY JOB, AS THAT IS WHAT WE WERE RELYING ON FINANCIALLY, SO I DON'T REALLY KNOW MUCH ABOUT WHAT WAS HAPPENING. WHAT I AM TRYING TO FIND OUT, AND THE COAST GUARD HERE IN KODIAK IS NOT VERY HELPFUL AT ALL BECAUSE HE IS ARMY, IS IF HE IS ELIGIBLE FOR MEDICAL TRAVEL BENEFITS TO KEEP HIS ONCOLOGY APPOINTMENTS THAT HE NEEDS. WE JUST FOUND OUT YESTERDAY THAT HE HAS TO TRAVEL TO ANCHORAGE THIS FRIDAY TO SEE THE ONCOLOGIST AGAIN BECAUSE THEY FOUND SOMETHING ON HIS LAST CT SCAN. WE HAD TO LEAVE OUR TRAILER ON AN EMERGENCY, BECAUSE IT WAS NO LONGER LIVABLE, DANGEROUS FOR ALL OF US, AND WE WERE PUTTING ALL OUR MONEY INTO REPAIRING IT. WASN'T MUCH AS I HAD TO QUIT MY JOB FOR BACK PROBLEMS,HE HAD TO QUIT HIS JOB UNTIL NOVEMBER, SO WE ARE QUITE BASICALLY STUCK. I HAVE TRIED CONTACTING THE COAST GUARD HERE, BUT IT'S ALWAYS THE SAME ANSWER...........THEY DO NOT DEAL WITH ARMY, WE HAVE TO GET A HOLD OF THE ARMY. I HAVE TRIED SEVERAL NUMBERS, AND JUST KEEP GETTING TRANSFERRED EVERYWHERE ELSE. WELL, WE ARE KIND OF IN AN EMERGENCY. OUR FINANCES ARE A HUGE PROBLEM RIGHT NOW, SO I AM HOPING TO FIND OUT WHETHER OR NOT HE CAN GET TRAVEL BENEFITS FOR HIS APPOINTMENTS. HIS MEDICAL BOARD WAS REQUIRING THAT HE SEES AN ONCOLOGIST EVERY MONTH FOR THE NEXT TWO YEARS AND HAS CT SCANS/PET SCANS, AND BLOOD WORK DONE, BUT TRICARE DENIED THE PET SCAN, MAY DENY HIS ONCOLOGY APPOINTMENTS..................WE DEFINITELY NEED TO FIND SOMEONE WHO CAN HELP POINT US IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION.

PLEASE, IF YOU CAN, E-MAIL ME SOMEONE TO CONTACT THAT CAN HELP US. I WOULD VERY MUCH APPRECIATE IT. IN ADVANCE, THANK YOU.

My husband has Cancer also. You should contact the nearest Veterans Hospital nearest you. They will send you an application to fill out. Then they will send you to the nearest clinic. They will refer you to the nearest hospital. My husband was in the army. He had surgery at the Denver V.A. Hospital. They also have a Fisher House for you and your husband to stay at. It is wonderful. Since you have use of a computer Look up the info on the internet. Also contact your Senator from Alaska. The V.A. pays all Medical costs. It doesn't sound like you would have a co-pay. Hang in there. There is help. God bless you and you husband and the children.
