I had colon resection in Dec 2004, started trial with FOLFOX and Avastin in Feb 2005, completed Folfox in Sept 05 and Avastin in Feb 06. I developed a frozen right shoulder in Dec 05. I have had various treatments for it. The only slow but gradual relief has been Physio. The left shoulder has had a slight pain, but since Sept 06, has deteriorated to the same level as the right shoulder. Has anyone had a similar shoulder pain experience with FOLFOX and Avastin?

Yes I did right after chemo with the same regiment as you. Ended in Nov 2005 then the shoulder pain was there it only lasted about 3 weeks. I started drinking Mangosteen Juice and I still drink it today for my joints. Hope this helps.

Absolutely!!! I can't believe someone else had this experience. Colon resection March, 2005, completed Folfox in October 2005 and Avastin in March 2006. I developed a frozen shoulder on my left side. We never could determined what caused it. The clinical trial facilitator said she had never heard of this type of pain assocatd with Avastin. I posted this same question a few months ago and I believe one or two people responded back saying they had shoulder pain. I also had a blood clot in my upper left arm just a couple of months after I started my chemo so we thought that might have something to do with it. After months of physical therapy, my doctor ended up doing a procedure called "a manipulation of the shoulder". I was put under general anesthesia and my shoulder was literally pulled out of its' frozen position. It helped tremendously. I still have some limited movement but no pain and it is getting better every day. Please check with your doctor & good luck!

I am so glad that I am not alone. I have spoken to the oncologists at the trial center, they say that there are 2 other people on the same trial with sore shoulders. The good news is that my right shoulder has recovered considerably, but the left shoulder is freezing up with pain.
