Pet Scan Question

I do not have any copies of my dad's pet scans in front of me and I have a quick question. In the reports, how do they refer to spots that are measurable (lesions, mets, spots??). Just curious.

    Hi jcavanaugh,

    On the PET scan I had, it stated "There is a 1.5 CM Focus of Hypermetabolism in the left side of the Pelvis." Other Radiologist may phrase it differently. Mine was surgically removed and hopefully no more will show up. Hope it helps and you don't hear any of these words. Kandy

    It varies hugely between radiologists I think - some are better at reporting than others - but it also depends upon what shows up. In my case I only ever had one PET that showed cancer (confirmed previously by biopsy). My initial PET post colon surgery showed "several subtle hypermetabolic foci located peripheraly in the right lobe - suspicious for tiny metasteses". Nothing has showed since then. So my situation may be somewhat unique - in my case my PET results did not line of with CT results and they ultimately decided that a) my CT results did not indicate cancer and b) my PET results did and that was the area biopsied by the colon surgeon. But, I'll never be able to quote that I had a liver met that was X cm x Y cm cuz there isn't any such data.

    A lot of art here as well as science.
