My Oncologist says there is not a special diet that is needed for the cancer that I had. I just got the book Beating Cancer W/Nutrition by Patrick Quillian. I do need to start eating healthier. I am over the hump with Vacation Bible School, only two more days to go. I told my pastor that I am taking the rest of the summer off, I cancelled sunday school for the summer, will only come to council meetings and women's group meetings and church. I will start back in Sept. hopefully more rested up. I am sleeping much better, it is so humid hear in Ohio.

Healthy is the ticket, and eliminating stress is DEFINATELY part of the ride!!!
Good for you, and I'm soooo glad you are sleeping again!

    Ladybug,

As a physician I hate to admit that the training we get on nutrition is general and poor. The doctor may take extra time to study it but needs to be highly motivated to do that. Most information they get concerns drugs and drug protocols. Keep doing your own reading- and I need to do mine as well.
    Good Luck,

    Hi Ladybug,

Like vinny said most doctors don't put any stock in "diets". The information in Patrick Quinlan's book is not a diet really but just how to eat healthier to help your immune system. Most of us eat very poorly before we get the shock of cancer. I just think it is natural to do everything you can to beat this thing. I'm glad you are taking it easy. Trying to be healthy does take a lot of time but is something you need. Take care and keep us posted.

    Hi Ladybug -

I'm glad you made the decision you did. You'll feel much better after you get the rest you need.

    Take care,
    Betsy

P.S. Washington DC can join you in the humidity wars anytime!

    hi ladybug,

Colon cancer is 80% dietary related. So that pretty much determines for me that diet IS the place to start for healing cancer.

Oncologists are awesome for knowing chemo and medications but they suck at nutrition.

I would no more ask my onc for nutritional advice as I would ask my plumber to fix my car.

If you want cancer dietary advice I would consult a Naturopathic doctor who is schooled in cancer nutrition. I wouldn't even mess with the hospital dietician but go directly to the top choice. (I mean anyone who serves jello as part of nutrition is suspect in my book).

    Glad you're sleeping.

I'm surprised your pastor didn't insist that YOU take the summer off rather than you having to go to him/her.

peace, emily who Beat Cancer With Nutrition herself! WooHoo!!!
