Back on Erbitux

Has anyone been off erbitux, then went back on? I took it for 30 something weeks and had good results. I just had two spots removed from my right lung and my lymph node in my chest removed (the lymphnodes were non cancerous). I have to go back on Erbitux and CTP11 for 6 months and then I may be done (?) Are the side effects just as bad the second time around?

    sorry you have to start again, but great news with the spots and lymphnodes.

    Man, Phil, I'm sorry that you have to go back to that **** drug. I seriously and sincerely hate Erbitux. It erbisux as far as I'm concerned. I suppose it *might* have kept me from having a recurrence after going into remission (there is really no way at all to make any valid statements about how effective the drug was for me), but I'm supposedly on a chemotherapy break, and it's been almost two months and I STILL have the rash. I'll be interested to know about side effects the second time around, because if they are as bad as the first time, then I'll pepper spray any nurse that approaches me with an IV pump and a bag of that drug. But I have heard of a drug called Panitumumab, which operates in a similar way to Erbitux but it is made from human proteins. Erbitux is made from mouse proteins, I think, and since the other is made from human proteins it is supposed to cause less of an allergic reaction. Maybe you could ask your doctor about it. If you do, please share any information that you learn.

    Hi Phil-

    Byron has been on the Erbitux for a while and the rash gets worse as soon as he stops using the Clindamycin Phosphate cream. While using the cream, he looks like he has been in the sun, but no acne looking spots.

    Hi Phil...you said you had good results? Well mate, I hope that included few side effects after seeing what Rodney wrote(you might like to use ammonia Rodney...cheaper than pepper spray!)
    Anyway Phil...all the best from us here...we hope that if you continue with the treatment the "nasties" will stay away and so will the **** cells.

    Glad to hear that they were able to get rid of those spots . I don't know about the Erbitux .But sure liked the part where you said that after this treatment you could be done with chemo !! Hang in there . and please keep us posted .
    Rodney .. Great to hear from you .. Sorry to hear that you are still having a problem with your rash . I sure hope it clears up for you .Take care and enjoy your vacation .

    Thanks everyone for your responses. Rodney, I'm sorry you had a such a hard time with the drug. It wasn't so bad for me. The doctor told me it's not as bad the second time because they don't have to start you with the megadose like they did the first time. I'll see. will try to ask about the other drug and if I can find anything out, I'll let you know. I'm enjoying this last day of freedom before I start with the next 26 weeks. It's hot as hell out here and I'm going swimming ;-)

    I am presently on a 2 month-(or more?) break from Erbitux, and presently finishing a 10 day nutrition/detox program. All of the residual rash that I had when entering the program is gone. Bud
