Getting back to normal

I am a 42 year old gay man who has just completed his chemo/radiotherapy. I am now thinking about getting back to normal. For me that includes having anal sex. Does anyone have any advice?

    I hope you are feeling well. I know that I was a mess three years ago when I had finished my treatments for anal cancer and had many complications.

    I am followed closely by a wonderful GI surgeon who did my initial biopsy and is an expert on anal cancer here in Boston. Her recommendation early on was to avoid any anal irritation at all for the first 6 months...including hard stools.

    Since then, she has cautioned against anything that can rip the anal tissue. The anus typically will be less flexible after radiotherapy.

    Dear Paul,

    Thanks for the advice. Have you returned to enjoyable anal sex? I don't mind waiting, but the idea that I will never be able to enjoy it again is very distressing, especially since my partner is exclusivelly top.
