Aw, Cherri, I remember my first day. AND my fanny pack...I even figured out how to shower with it! And I kept getting stuck on the door to the dishwasher when I tried to empty it.
My best piece of advice is drink as much fluids as possible...keep very well hydrated. I didn't and ended up in trouble.
As far as the cramps, ask you oncologist. I became the biggest pain in the neck for mine, and her nurse...called about lots of stuff....even when I banged my leg on the car door...she said to go see my general doctor.
Hugs and good vibes from me to you.

Yesterday was my first chemo treatment too. I had leg cramps all nite. Is that normal, or just from all the walking, I wonder? I have not had nausea yet either, but no gas cramps. I do have a colostomy and my bag has been filling with air, though, so maybe it just doesn't hurt me. So, the answer to part of your question is that I have the gas too. I am on FOLFOX, with a 46 hour pump of 5FU at home.

    Hi Cherri,

Like Charelaine said it might be gas. It also might be the precurser to diarehea. I am on the folfox treatment and my bowels (ugh when have to talk about this) have gone back and forth. Have immodium and senekot in my medicine cabinet to fight everything. Like Kathi said, try to drink a lot. That helps "push" everything through. It also helps get the chemo out of your system quicker. If the cramps continue, you should call the oncologist. Don't be worried about bugging them, that is what they are there for. Take care and hugs!!! The first time was the hardest for me. Tell us how you are doing. I'm going for my 3rd treatment Wednesday and dread starting the sick process all over again.

    Hi Charelaine -

My chemo was Xeloda (oral 5FU) / oxaliplatin / Avastin. Every one of the cycles (6) I had flu-like aches and pains starting late evening of my chemo day and lasting for 24 hours or so. I called it "chemo-flu". Tylenol helped some. My oncology nurse said it was not at all uncommon.

So, hopefully this too will pass.

Oxaliplatin will definitely cause you to have leg cramps. If they continue, ask your oncologist if they can administer the oxaliplatin at at slower rate, i.e., instead of over 1 hour extend it to 2 hours. That seemed to help me.
