Hi, I'm a first time participant. Have seen messages from people with recent Stage II dx and just want to let you know that my dx in 1999 was Stage III. Subsequently,3 metasteses, 3 courses of chemo and one of radiotherapy later and I'm still here fighting back. The message is, don't ever give up, there is life after cancer.

    Hi Baily,

Welcome to this site. My story is similar to yours except I was diagnosed with Stage 111, had one metastisis, 3 different treatments with chemo and radiotherapy.

You are so right - "don't ever give up". My hope is that the doctors can keep me alive long enough to find a cure.

Let us know how you are doing.

    Regards,

    Kerry

    Hi, bailey, what great news!

And an inspiration to us all. Along with Kerry and Kanga, and Joy, and many others.
I've just been reading a bunch of statistics that are sort of a downer...but they don't include the power of the survivor's fight!!!

    Welcome,
    Kathi

    Kathi,

Don't get too down reading those statistics....they are just that - numbers!! We are beating the odds every day and that is what we must concentrate on. I was asked the other day by our ex-governor Ann Richards (who is now a cancer patient at MD Anderson) what my prognosis was, I answered her this way: "I've never asked or wanted to hear a prognosis from my doctors, my own prognosis is to live each and every day to its fullest."

    Believe!!

Kerry - what a great answer! Some, admittedly brash and relatively young individual, popped into my office after I returned from initial colon surgery and said, loudly, "SO, what's your prognosis". I told her I was living a good life and the prognosis was fine. And I have never asked my oncologist that question. No point. I am doing great, but statistically speaking of course the prognosis for Stage IV is not great. But to H with statistics, just concentrate on yourself - and then the prognosis can be pretty damn good I think.

All of you are such inspiring people. I am stage 4 with original mets to my ovaries. I have never asked my prognosis. I just don't want to hear bad news. Originally in conversation with my onc nurse, I was told I had a good prognosis. Then the cancer came back. I just want to LIVE. Sometimes this chemo thing gets me really down, but when I read such messages of people who are fighters, I get a renewed spirit again!!! Way to go Betsy and Kerry!!! And Bailey...you go girl!!! As always, my prayers and thoughts are always with you all on this board! Terri

bailey: Cancer is a word not a sentence!! Statistics are "old news". Think about it the stats you are reading were started for period 5 YEARS AGO!!

There is lots of new drugs and treatments which were not available 5 years ago.

Also watch when you are searching on the "Net" there are many sites with info that hasn't been updated for years.

Think positive...YOU ARE A PERSON NOT A NUMBER!!!
