Liver mets

Hi all,
Yesterday we got results of my husbands ct scan which shows no change to his previous scan 12 weeks ago. He is stage 4 with liver mets and after 6 treatments of Folfox6 and avastin he responded well with 30% reduction in size of tumours but after 5 more treatments the tumours have remained the same size so the effect of the treatment is not getting any more response. The scan has been forwarded to a liver surgeon for his opinion but the 5 lesions are spread out, has anyone out there had 5 lesions resected??
Our onc is looking at more chemo if surgery is not an option but I feel we should be checking out other liver directed therapy eg Betsy's post. However we live in Dublin, Ireland where I feel this area is not so advanced,any ideas on what approach might help? we are in the process of getting an opinion in USA.All help welcome at this stage particularly from anyone with similar disease who has found some treatment that looks promising?

    Hi Jackie,

    I read your message. Sorry to hear the lesions aren't responding as well as they were. You may want to look into MD Anderson in Houston, TX. My husband had 3 lesions resected by Dr. Stephen Curly with no problems whatsoever. The surgical team is excellent. I wish you and your husband the best.

    Hi Jackie,

    I'm hoping that you will find successful treatment options for your husband. Much is being offered now for liver mets and I hope that a different regimen will work for your husband. I will keep you both in my heart and prayers.

    Hi Jackie,

    I was stage 4, with mets to the liver. I had the chemo prior to the surgery in an attempt to shrink things, making the surgery more successful. They didn't know it spread to my liver until I was being operated on. I was fortunate enough to be a candidate for surgery, and had 40% of my liver removed. That was nearly 5 yrs ago, and today, I'm fine. No cancer. Ziltch. Nada! Scouty, from this site had hers spread to her lungs, and she SUCCESSFULLY treated hers with nutrition. I think there is a lot to be said for that! She was also told she had limited options, and she proved everyone wrong. My theory is, as long as you're still here, you have a chance at success. Don't you think? Now, chin up little nipper, and get that hubby on the road to recovery!

    I am cancer free after having stage IV with mets to my liver. My tumors were numersous., about 8. I went with radiation to my bladder, the tumor in colon rested on the bladder, then 7 months of chemo. in the 3 month of my chemo the tumors inthe liver had shrunk from 8 to two. The doctor could do abalation. It cooks the tumor like a microwave. The put a needle into the tumor with 800 degrees of heat and blasts it away. There are only a few places I am aware that do this in the States. I had mine done at the Markey Cancer Center in Lexington, KY. but there are many others. I want to encourage you. I had the avastin, with xeloda, and oxlaplain. All with the radiation at the same time. My prognosis did not look the best. I am now living a year past my dz and doing well. The CT came back clear in January. I go for a blood test next week. I will keep you all in my prayers.
