Hi guys,

How often have you heard of Colon Cancer spreading to the pancreas? My dad was stage 3 (11 out of 19 lympnodes were positive) it spread to his liver in April of last year and now we are worried about cancer in the pancreas as he has been experiencing a lot of cramps and stomach pain (he had an endoscopy and colonoscopy which came back clean last week) He had a liver ablation in Dec. We will now by the scan results if it worked or not. I am so scared to get the results I can just imagine how he feels.

If you could let me know if you have heard about Pancreatic cancer spread from Colon, please let me know.

Thanks a bunch!

Julie Marie

    Hi Julie,
It is not usual for colon to spread to the pancreas, it usually metastasizes to liver or the lungs. It also spreads from the original site if not cleared completely and can affect the pelvic area as well as the organs contained there. I have suffered from pancreatitis since having chemo. It was originally supected that it was pancreatic ca but it was a gallbladder problem. There seems to be a tie in between 5fu chemo and digestive tract problems e.g. gallbladder ,duodenal and peptic ulcers. I have suffered from all of them since chem. Perhaps your dad may have a gallbladder problem or he may simply be suffering from adhesions which occur after colon surgery. I do know that any problems with the pancreas cause severe debillitating pain so try not to worry just keep the doc's on track looking for a cause,Ron

    Hi Julie,
My dad's colon cancer has seemed to take a similar route to your father's. Mine was diagnosed with stage 4 (colon that mestastasized to his liver both surgerically removed. He followed with chemo post operations. After a couple months his kidney blood results were off, and he also felt pain in his pelvis. It turns out he has a tumor in the tissue of his pelvis. I don't want to scare you..but make sure your dad has a ct-scan or pet-scan to rule out anything. I know it is hard even imagining coming back and it's so hard to see how discouraging it is. I hope this helps..again I don;t want to scare you.

Your dad is in my prayers,
    Nicole

    Ahoy, Julie Marie -

Not trying to scare you, but I have learned that mets to the pancreas do happen; I was informed by the folks at National Cancer Institute that people with my type of hereditary CRC (HNPCC) have an elevated probability of mets to the pancreas. I am unaware of any pain associated with the mets... I do know tha even three years out I still go through periods when i am more gassy and bloaty than "normal" (whatever that is anymore). Have him talk to his onc about the discomfort and specifically address his/your concerns.

    Best regards
