Depressed

I've had cancer. My next door neighbor had cancer. The man across the street died of cancer. The woman two doors up from him had cancer. Now my cat may have cancer. I feel all this pressure to be positive, and have a good attitude, but frankly, I'm all out.

Dear Debborra, I am sorry to hear about your cat. Please don't think you have to be the poster child for cancer or positive thinking. Deal with what you can and let go of the rest. You HAD cancer - until you hear otherwise, it is in your past. Your neighbors have had or are dealing with cancer now. Unless you think there is something in the water, there is nothing you can do about it except be sympathetic. Take care of yourself and your cat. There are therapies that can work on animals. Otherwise, you want your pet to be comfortable and know that they are loved. You know cancer isn't the worst thing that can happen to someone. To be alone, to be unloved, to have lived a wasted life - all of those things are worse then being sick or even dying.

Debbborra: When I found out I had cancer, my husbands sister had brain cancer and his brother has tonsil cancer. Then my best friend was dx with a melanoma and my husband was just treated for lung cancer. It is everywhere and all we can do is treat it and keep going. I have a little dog and if I found out she had cancer I would be so very sad. Animals can't talk and tell you where it hurts. But, I would do everything in my power to help her and get her well if I can. Since you're writing you are a SURVIVOR. As a survivor help yourself first and everyone else as you can. You sound strong, you'll be just fine. Hang in there, it will pass. If not, call your dr and ask for help. Depression can be treated too.

My only advice... is to try to deal with each day as it comes. About 3 years ago my fiance died and then about 8 months ago I found out I had cancer. I guess through it all I have learned that the best thing to do is deal with what you can each day... and then don't worry about the things that you can't control. Try to find the beauty and joy in little things. I know it took me quite awhile after Bob died to find the beauty in the sunset or anything else... But the one thing is that if you give yourself time and take it one day at a time... One day you will wake up and things will seem better.... Hope you will be able to find the beauty in a sunset soon. Take Care... God Bless...

Why are you putting pressure on yourself? I am 2 years post b/c and I am allowing myself to be depressed now that I am having nasty side effects from the Femara I just stopped. If you feel depressed, talk it out with someone you trust but don't feel you need to have any kind of attitude than the one you actually feel.
