Cancer-free and NED

Now that all of my doctors have reviewed last week's PET scan, which shows that there is no longer any cancer in my liver but suspicious activity in my formerly colon area, I can now say that I am cancer-free. I still have to endure a few more chemotherapy cycles, just to be sure that all the stray cancer cells are killed off, but the five liver tumors that I started with are completely gone. And my surgeon did a flex sigmoid exam this morning which showed that the questionable "activity" in my colon area (I don't even have a colon) is only inflammation due to chemotherapy drugs and possibly residual inflammation from the colectomy. I still have to get scans and exams in three months to monitor the formerly troubled areas, but for today I am NED.

    Thank you all for your replies. I'm still in the hospital -- the doctor wants to keep doing the chemotherapy, but it's a bit easier knowing that it has been effective. I hope that everyone can have some good results, and the sooner the better! There are still some questionable areas in my scans that will require future observation, but the doctors believe that it's of little concern, probably just inflammation. So things are good for now. I'm just eager to get out of the hospital today.

    Hi Rodney,
    Congratulations mate , don't put all your results down to luck , you made the decision to survive and you have put in the hard yards to give yourself every chance. This room gives us the encouragement to keep on when we really don't feel like it is worth it. Right at this point in your life I bet you feel that it has all been worth it. Keep it up and all the best for the future Ron.

    Yoh Rodney....great stuff mate! Did you know that NED now qualifies you to pull up a chair in the "unofficial" cyber NED room. We have nice leather recliners to relax in. We hope that you are out of hospital soon buddy!
    (although it seems a shame that you will not have all those good looking nurses to look at!..lol!)

    HURRAY!! See, now all the crap you have been dealing with - figuratively and literally - is worth it. You have had such a hard time.

    NED will give you the strenght to fight through the rest of chemo. May your side effects and complications be few.

    Congratulations!!

    I am new to the board but have read several of your posts. I was thrilled to read there is no more cancer in your liver. Your post really strengthened my faith. Doc said that hubby has three liver spots. (PET confirmed they are cancer). After next treatment, he will have new PET. He encourages me to posts but does not read them himself. I made sure that he heard this one.

    Rodney, are you on Avastin or another drug for the liver?

    Great news, Rodney. What a journey this has been for you, but the results are outstanding! And your story is inspirational, as I read Betty's post just above mine!
    Good luck with these last cycles. It's nice to know that the light at the end of the tunnel is NOT an onrushing train!

    That's fantastic! My boyfriend's scans were clear on Friday so we're celebrating over here in Ireland too. xx
